Hello, I am having problems with my PC, and while I was looking for a sloution to fix them, I found some problems in Event Log as well… My problem with PC is big, so I have to fix all errors one by one, to figure out which one is causing my system to shutdown without any reason. I have already contacted Microsoft team and they are telling me what to do, but till now none of their solutions solved my problem.
This is from Event Log, and this error appears every time I turn on PC…
Log Name: System
Source: AFD
Date: 12.7.2013 17:10:42
Event ID:16001
Task Category: None
Level: Warning
Description:
The description for Event ID 16001 from source AFD cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.
If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.
The following information was included with the event:
\Device\Afd
\Driver\aswTdi
aswtDi is avast driver, as far I know
AFD is something connected with Network
Maybe aswTdi is causing problems with Afd as well. I googled a bit and saw Avast is having/had problems with something related to network…
Cleaning out vent ports, fans, cpu, gpu, of accumulated dust is recommended every six months or so to prevent heat issues from causing abrupt shutdowns. Use only canned air to do this, never a vacuum cleaner as static electricity created by use of such can/will be an issue. Also, prevent any fans from spinning when blowing them out, as fans will act as generators and generate electricity if allowed to spin freely when cleaning.
Of course, system must be powered down and off when doing this.
Error messages coming up for the GPU? Make and model will help here. BSOD’s popping up or no? If system is home-built, need to know that too, as psu may or may not be up to task of running gpu and system together.
Depending on os version, you can always run sfc /scannow directly or use original CD, to ensure all system files are correct and in their original versions, to rule out any os software file corruption issues, and also run chkdsk C: /f/v via cmd prompt. For the latter, use cmd as admin to run, and for the former, use admin cmd prompt to run if using vista or higher. For XP, use your admin account to run both, but you must use your CD to enable sfc to run and have it in your CD/DVD tray when you begin.
EDIT: Removed unnecessary steps.
EDIT: For a complete listing of certified psu’s recommended by AMD, see here: http://support.amd.com/us/certified/power-supplies/Pages/listing.aspx Specifications should list 12+ v rail as a single-rail output for best results. If using a psu with dual-rails, you must balance the rail loadings to prevent overloading the 12+ volt rails when running this gpu.
PSU is new and should not be any problems. I’ve been running GPU on windows 7 without problems (I was never playing BBC2 on Windows 7). And GPU did not print out any errors, event logs or any other warning. I tested all parts of my PC, cleaned it twice, bought new thermal paste for CPU, and system still shutdown. So I downloaded MSI Afterburner and checking temperature. I opened Battlefield Bad Company 2 and started playing. At first, everything was fine. GPU increased temp. from 40C to 50C and keep it at 50C for next 10 mint… Then suddenly MSI Afterburner wrote temperature 0C. Afterburner was recording 0C for next 10 mints and then PC shutdown. Later on, I did another test. Again opened BBC2 and temperature was 0C again. I wanted to go in MSI Afterburner and check what’s going on and manually force fan to 100% speed. But I was not able to do that. Once Afterburner printed 0*C I was not able to exit game anymore. I always got black screen and had to restart PC.
I was trying to install Windows 7 on second HDD and test if problem is with drivers. I deleted by mistake System reserved HDD and had to reinstall Windows 8. I carefully installed new drivers and avoid installing drivers which are not strictly Windows 8 supported (Before I installed drivers for Windows 7 if I could not find them for eight). Now GPU is running with almost 10C lower. When idle temperature is 32C and before it was 41*C… I am installing BBC2 again and will test it. I hope it was just problem in some drivers.
Well, it is either a glitch in MSI Afterburner or it is a faulty sensor on your motherboard. Seems you may be running your system not at stock settings? Overclocking?
I’d revert to stock settings for everything and see how things work out if this is true. Problem is, once overclocking damage via out-of-spec heat generation occurs once, damage may be already done.
It does sound like heat is an issue when stressing your system with BBC2.
my pc repair guy put on avast 8 and now I have the same event errors as everyone else here
An I/O operation initiated by the Registry failed unrecoverably. The Registry could not flush hive (file): ‘’.
I thought I was going to have to take it back but I see its something with avast. however being that the reason pc went in for repair was due to corrupt registry. pc would not start after last round of windows updates.
Assuming you’ve just had your system in due to the registry hive problems, and it was the repair guy that fixed that issue, personally I’d go back to him/her to fix your new issue with avast! 8 running on Windows 8, I assume? This should be under some sort of warranty, so it should not be about having to spend additional monies to fix what’s wrong here.
Only he/she knows what they had to do to get your system running properly again, so… I’d also have the repair guy look at why you’ve issues with windows updates as well.
Not to put off your request for help here at all, but seems the above is the best course of action given that you just had it repaired, if that is indeed the case.
You can, come back here again, if you wish, if your repair guy either refuses to assist you or cannot fix your issue(s).
