avast! Executable Detected As A Trojan By Immunet Protect 3.0....

After upgrading my AIS install to version 6.0.1091 on each of the machines on my home network, several components of the product were detected as Trojans by Immunet Protect 3.0 (free, cloud-only option) and quarantined by the application on two PCs. I was confident that it was a mistake and attempted to restore the files. Complete shock could only describe my feelings when Immunet reported that the files could not be restored as they had most likely been deleted leaving me with a non-functional version of AIS that would not allow me to either uninstall or reinstall.

Just prior to initiating a process that would have involved me simply deleting avast and then clearing my registry, I decided to visit the Support section of the website. I was happy to find that there was an uninstall utility, aswclear, available for download. After using the utility I was able to successfully reinstall AIS and all is now well again. Needless to say, Immunet Protect 3.0 has been removed from the boxes in my household.

I really liked the concept of Immunet being a companion product that would simply enhance the effectiveness of your primary protection. Sadly, that concept failed in my opinion and it’s not worth the risk to use going forward. Since I first started using avast, the free option, I have always had confidence in the application. My decision to add what I thought would simply be additional protection was fueled by the thought that more protection was better for my needs. Well, I reached the conclusion that Avast provides all of the real-time security that I need. Although, I’ll probably still use a couple of on-demand scanners as needed. Beware to those you who are still using the Immunet/Avast combination.

Since you use avast Internet Security you should not need Immunet as essential combination with avast. avast IS offer a complete protection and a few on-demand scanner like MBAM etc will be fine. That’s just opinion

Maybe you need to disable avast and also the self defense module to restore the files.
Better will be excluding avast files from Immunet.
Best will be trusting in avast only
Not all the times more is better… Programs can conflict and the final situation is worse than without protection.

He already did that… deleted immunet. 8)

Exactly:

We had a customer that uses 4 firewalls, 5 anti-virus software and 3 anti-spyware software. So, judging after you, this customer had a bullet-proof configuration. But you are wrong: he also had more that 10 malware active.

Omid and Tech,

Thanks for the replies. As I mentioned in my original post, I never had any doubts regarding avast even while I was only using the free version. I can only say that I fell for the pitch and have since learned my lesson. Immunet wasn’t needed. Based on the information that was provided about the application, I thought that it would help. It didn’t live up to my expectations. My decision is that AIS is better on it’s own in conjunction with the use of on-demand scanners like MBAM when needed. I just wanted to make other avast users aware of the problem that I encountered. Thanks again…

That IS funny! ;D
