I am using Avast Security 15.8.0 on a Mac (OS Ventura 13.2.1) and accessing Gmail via a Chrome browser. I created and sent an email to another party and went into my sent folder to save the email as a pdf (via print to pdf). Avast File Shield alert detects that the resulting pdf file is infected with malware (PhishingX-gen). The Avast scan does not detect any issues nor does the CleanMyMac X software, which I just installed to research this issue further. Any suggestions or insights are much appreciated!
As an update, I uninstalled Google Chrome and performed the same print > save as pdf using Safari without a malware problem. Tried setting up a 100% new laptop and installed a fresh version of Chrome. When I printed to pdf using Gmail/Chrome the problem reoccurred. I assume it is a Chrome exploit from my Gmail inbox or the minimal iCloud data that synced over to the new laptop. Regardless, my new environment is now without Google Chrome and is operating without an issue. I would still love a solution for removing the malware while keeping Chrome.
Attached is the message.
Hi @lindsay_rush, can you please send us a screenshot showing the detection message?
This is what is happening when I try to create a pdf. Please advise.
