Why can’t avast deal with it, e.g. what error is displayed ?
What is the actual file name ?
Have you tried manually clearing the Temp Internet Files from within IE settings ?
What is your Operating System ?

What avast version are you using 4.8 or 5.0 ?

For avast 4.8:
If you have Win2k, XP, vista or Win7 (all 32bit), you could enable a boot time scan. Right click the avast icon, select Start avast! Antivirus, a memory scan will take place followed by the opening of the Simple User Interface, Menu, ‘Schedule boot-time scan…’ Or see http://www.digitalred.com/avast-boot-time.php. Don’t opt for deletion (you have no options left), always send to the chest and investigate.

For avast 5.0:
If you have Win2k, XP, vista or Win7 (all 32bit), you could enable a boot time scan. From the avast UI, Scan Computer, Boot-time Scan, Schedule Now button and reboot.

back again.
thank davidR for the info on where to find the bootscan. tried it and it didnt find it. then when windows settled i did a scan and there it was again in same place.
im running xp with sp2.

Try this

Norman Malware Cleaner http://www.norman.com/support/support_tools/58732/en-uk
Dr.Web CureIt! http://www.freedrweb.com/cureit/?lng=en
How Do I Use Dr.Web CureIt!? http://www.freedrweb.com/cureit/how_it_works/

OK I gave you two different methods of scheduling an avast scan and they relate to the fact that there are currently two supported versions. Hence the question on which version of avast you are using, which you omitted.

So where exactly were you looking for the schedule a boot-time scan ?

If you are hopefully using avast 5 left click the avast icon in the tray to open the UI, see images, click to expand.

back again.
once again, thanks people for your help.
im using avast 4.8 fully updated.
should my next step be install ver 5 ?
i managed to upset it last night and it has renamed itself to ZZZZZZZZZZZ but avast still cant move or rename or delete it.
i did a boot scan and it didnt find it so im now thinking that something is intsalling it after a boot.
can i copy and paste the avast report in here so you can see it?
brb im going to get ver 5.
cheers
