I have found out that Avast firewall is stopping my mobile hotspot from working correctly. I do not seem to be able to edit/delete the rule that is causing this (see attached). How can I tell the firewall to let me use my hotspot?
Just another point in the bl00dy undocumented hidden geek:area is a massive pain with lots of things that SHOULD be in the main interface.
God forbid if you do know of it, how to get there, it is a totally disorganised single level scroll fest to try and find what you want.
A - This needs a complete rethink on what is in there (not a dumping ground to hide options).
B - It shouldn’t be hidden nor undocumented, what are you frightened of, warn users that modification could have an effect on your protection, etc. etc.
I didn’t bother installing it and seeing some of the comments (I have been using the windows firewall in this system since I bought it), looks like a good decision, seeing these firewall issues reported.
Having to guide users to the undocumented hidden area, just shows how poor the interface is.
Sorry it is of little use hiding the link in the support.avast.com, people will still experience problems and still come to the forums and then be pointed to the geek:area. It is notoriously difficult to find things in the support.avast.com (also seen in the forums) to be directed to the location in the forums.
This needs to be documented IN the program, with whatever warning you feel necessary such as that in the link:
Important:The Avast Geek settings area contains options for advanced program configuration, and is designed for users with high-level understanding of Avast Antivirus functionality. To specify everyday program behavior, we recommend using basic settings, which are configured by default to provide optimum protection and security.
