Avast for Ubuntu scanner

Hi All,

Does Avast for Ubuntu scan and recognize only Linux malware? Or does it also scan and recognize Windows malware? Suppose I have a USB drive that is infected with some malware files written for Windows. Will Avast for Ubuntu be able to recognize and remove the Windows malware that is on the USB drive?

I hope my question is clear. Thanks!

Tom

It also detects Windows malware.

Thanks! This will be a good way to scan possibly infected USB drives from within Ubuntu (where the Windows malware is harmless).

Cheers,

Tom

You’re welcome…!

OK, I installed Avast onto my Ubuntu 10.10 using the Ubuntu Software Center installer. After install, I downloaded the updates and now I get an error when I try to run Avast. The error message is
“An error occured in avast!engine: Invalid argument.”

Any way to fix this error? Thanks!

Tom

Ok, the solution from the other thread worked. Yay! But it was not easy. I’m a Linux newbie, so I have no real idea what I’m doing while typing in all the commands.

Do I have to run the same commands each time the kernal is updated?

Thanks!

Tom

No.

Are you sure?

As long as the variable isn’t overwritten while updating: Yes.
