avast force my htc wildfire to reboot after 15% sd card scanning!!

Hi ! i wanna know if you are having the same problem as me when i proceed to scan my sd card, after 15% of scanning , my htc wildfire get rebooted,i add that i don’t have any problem when i scan the apps. please avast team fix this problem.

Hi,

the whole device restarts or just the OS seem to “restart”?

Filip

hi! i guess the whole system restart, it doesn’t take lot of time to restart as a normal restart but all widgets and apps are reloded when the home page appears!

I’m using the same device, I don’t have that problem, is your phone rooted? :? Maybe you could provide a bit more info about it: what android version are you running, is it a modified rom, is the phone s-offed or not, any special apps installed.

OK, can you tell me what file(s) is it scanning when it restarts? Could you try to temporarily remove the file(s) and see if it makes any difference?

Filip

my phone is not rooted and the android version is froyo 2.2, as for the file on which the mobile restarts i can’t locate it as the progress vary from 15 to 20 %, maybe i ll have to format my sd card or remove avast definitivly!! thanks guy for your help

Same with my milestone 2.2. about 20% of SD card scanning, force close and reboot. Please fix this. Thanks.

justforlove: Does it really force close (you get the crash dialog) or does it “just” close?

miroman: I don’t think it’s an issue with your SD card. I suppose you couldn’t send me the whole contents of your SD card, right?

to both of you: Could you simulate the issue again and send me the logcat from the time it happened? My email is in my profile.

i have scanned my wildfire again, this time the progress reached 22 percent - 920 files scanned- after a long series of files with titles like 558b889dff455f- f4545dfdd5d-477d5g54d4b … the phone rebooted.

Do you think you could locate those files?

Getting same thing on my non-rooted EVO running Android v.2.3.3. I can’t get to the file coz it appears to be a system file. It tells me it is in the “com” folder. No such folder is shown with any file browser I have. It first rebooted at 15%, then I deleated all the files I no longer used - old pics and the like, now it goes to 40% and then does a full reboot, just like before - black screen, then the normal Sprint/HTC/Android start-up screens. My SD card is 32MB and over half full. Mostly music but, some apps as well.
I know it’s a Beta release, so I’m not real upset but, I like what I see and would gladly reinstall upon next release. I’ll reinstalling this release and help with trouble shooting the issue, if you like.

Hi Sharon,

did you try the newest version that came out yesterday?

Actually that might be a question for everyone.

If it happens with 1.0.1282, I would really need to see the logcat from some of you. If you don’t know what that is, I will explain.

Filip

With the official release update and still reboot after 20% of scanning SD card. Please tell me a little bit about log and the way to send it to you.

BTW, Merry Xmas!!!

hello my frreinds,ok today i have apdated to the newest version of avast, things went good as the progress rate reached +60 % but the same problem happend when avast begaun scannig the files with titles 21sd21fd21f21d2g1, so i wanted to locate them like Mr philp told me, after plugging my htc to my desktop i found these files were a cache files from zedge application (already removed), so i ll hope we can help you improving you kind antivurs, as for me i ll delete all thes cache files and make a new scan to see what heppen.

hi again friends, i’m back to tell you that my problem of sudden rebooting is resolved after deleting all the cache files (about 10.000 caches files !!) , the scan was executed in less 4 ,minutes and everything is okay now. hope the solution i found will help people who got the same problem: thanks.

You can just search the Android Market for “logcat” and a few applications should pop up. You want an application that is able to save the logcat (to SD card I suppose). Then you simulate the problem and after the reboot, you start the log application, save the logcat and send it to my email havlicek@avast.com with some brief description of the problem (so I know what is the email about).

Filip

Thanks for the feedback, I will take a look at the cache files then.

Hi everyone,

sorry to keep you waiting for so long. A few days ago we released virus definitions that should fix the issue with rebooting while scanning the SD card (at least on my phone it did since I was able to reproduce the issue). Could everyone experiencing the issue update to the newest virus definitions and try the SD card scan once again?

Thanks. Hope all is fine now

Taken from another thread:

to send a log follow this step-by-step guide:
  • go to Android Market
  • search for aLogcat
  • download and install the app
  • start aLogcat from the app menu → aLogcat will start gathering the log messages
  • now use the HOME button to go back to the phone interface (do NOT use the BACK key as this will CLOSE aLogcat, HOME just puts it to the back)
  • use avast! Mobile Security to simulate your issue
  • once the unwanted behaviour occured long-press the HOME key
  • select aLogcat app
  • press the MENU key
  • press SHARE
  • press E-Mail
  • send the log
  • close aLogcat (BACK key)

But you should update to the newest version of AMS before sending us the log. The current version is 1.0.1590.
