Well - I am a bit curious …
1: When avast! Free make the first scan on your system (during the first installation) -
How much can it find?
I mean - it is a scan - BEFORE avast! Free is even installed.
So what do it look for?
Have it power to find serious threats by that early state?
2: After the 1. real scan, after avast1 Free is installed for good -
Do first time take longer then the next times?
Or is there not any difference?

It is looking for malware that will try to block the install…

The first scan took about 1hr in my laptop of about 360gb hard drive having used about 150gb…
It is a basic scan… It finds 90% of the basic threats…
If your computer is deeply infected you should schedule a boot time scan…
The boot time scan will :oToast:o every threat…

Well it may not detect 100% of all malware samples…
But if the malware is in its definition then the boot time will remove the malware completely from the computer without a trace(maybe)… 8)
Malwarebytes will be my second choice scanner…
