Hi, again, DavidR Leader. I did exactly that, press the Register now. I am sent to a page, with an Code/Key that I used and that tells me that it has already expired. I was using, before version 12.3, version 5 which had a license until 2035. I imagined/assumed that with version 12.3 it would be the same thing, or similar.
I would have to assume that if there is a check or embedded key relating to that version and presumably linked to a date also. So it would fail.
I can’t see a way around that.
So the fallback mechanism is somehow working, I just tried on XP VM and changed date/time back and forth, update definitions, insert old license key, reboot the machine etc. and finally got this.
Unfortunately I don’t have repro steps now but if you’re lucky enough, you’ll get another year.
OK now with repro steps. I just tried once so don’t blame me if it won’t work.
- If you already have Avast installed, uninstall it cleanly.
- Disconnect from the Internet.
- Change date to 2019/01/01.
- Install Avast 12.3.
- Confirm you have unregistered license until 2019/01/31.
- Insert universal license key: W11332244H9900A0420-8MRTR8W5
- Confirm you have valid license until 2019/06/01.
- Set program/VPS update to Manual.
- Change date to 2025/3/26 (today).
- Reboot the machine. Your license will be expired.
- Connect to the Internet. Initiate online VPS update immediately.
- After VPS update, you will have valid license until 2026/3/26 (a year from today).
- Set back VPS update to Automatic.
DavidR Leader, thanks for that. I will appretiate that very much.
NON Leader, that happened to me with AVAST FREE 5. The licenses were renewed every year, automatically.
NON Leader, if I insert that universal license key, it doesn’t work? Do I need to follow all those steps?
DavidR Leader, " would have to assume that if there is a check or embedded key relating to that version and presumably linked to a date also. So it would fail.

Sorry it wasn’t more productive, but allways going to ge difficult integratin an old program version with current registrations.
That said, I think the only possible way would to try steps that NON suggested.
Hi. I followed your instructions. They worked like a charm on 6 computers, WINDOWS 10 PRO, 64 Bits installations. All of them from the same ISO file, WINDOWS 10 PRO, 64 Bits. Now I have this LAPTOP, from HP, EliteBook 2570P. When I start installing AVAST FREE 12.3, during the installation I get the Blue Screen. I have no clue what is happening. Can you give me some clues? Thanks in advance.
Glad to hear the steps works for you.
If BSoD is reproducible, then it may be some drivers or other software on your laptop conflicts with Avast 12.3. Updating these drivers/software might help solving BSoD issue; if it won’t work, I don’t think there is not much thing you can do as Avast 12.3 is already EoL/EoS.
I installed AVAST FREE 18.8. No problems. Do you have an universal key for it? Thanks in advance.
IIRC Avast v18.8 automatically switches into “No license” mode that does not need any registration key after clean install.
NON Leader, I noticed that after installation. I changed the computer’s date to 1/1/2020, offline. Than, I changed to the actual date, connected it and did an update. and I checked that it was registered for more than a thousand days. Now it is doing automatic updates, working perfectly. Thanks, again.
