Avast Free and Windows Defender

Running Avast free on windows 7 Home Premium. Should the windows Defender be turned off? Thanks!

IMO, yes. As it isn’t needed. No conflicts on W7, though.

Yes, you are using Malwarebytes already.

This is not for my computer. Its one I just formatted and put windows 7 Home Premium back on. I installed Avast Free for them becasue they had Norton before.

Yes, you can disable WD anyways. Install MBAM FREE (If the person can not afford the paid version), and configure it for a weekly Threat Scan. Do not forget to add “Check for updates before scanning”.

I’ve noted that with WD running, opening and closing programs is a little slower than with running just avast! alone. Same is true for running the full program version of Malwarebytes; everything is just a tad slower to run. Free version does not affect system operation, however, because there is no mbam service process running to intercept them when you call other programs and run them.

Both Windows Defender and the paid version of Malwarebytes run in real-time to protect your system; hence there will be some system impact because of that.

WD is old and obsolete, anyway, imo. Never detected or blocked anything on XP Pro when I ran it there. Not worth running.
