Avast Free Antivirus - Program not updating as usual issue

Hi,

Just wanted to see if many people are getting the same issue, which is easy to resolve.

Avast Free Version usually updates the program and Virus Definition automatically, though recently a few people ive delt with when performing the Avast Program update says “Update available” though does not install it. Plus you are not notified to say a program update is available, even though Avast says “you are protected”, cant be if it needs a Program update that wont automatically install

The resolution i found is download the installer and let it re-write.

For people who do not check this, or notified that the Program version is not up to date, this could be a problems and thought id address it for Developers to look into.

Hi Rob2k, and thank you for reporting this. I can confirm that, in some cases, the update “status” may suggest that Avast is outdated while the program is fully up-to-date. We’re aware of this problem, and the fix should be released soon.

In the meantime, you can use the workaround you mentioned (download and reinstall Avast using the latest installer.

You can double-check that you’re using the latest version by going to - Menu - About. The current latest version is 23.1.

This is a several year old Avast issue that I have been trying to resolve with support. Their message was that the announced update of the program is done according to some algorithm gradually. According to their communication, even a 6 weeks “slippage” of installation is not a problem. Over the course of 5 years, Avast has been reinstalled several times.

Hello, sorry for the late reply.
Avast Antivirus updates can indeed be spread over several weeks. This is a staged rollout method.
The speed of installing a software update depends on many different factors. The installation of an update can occur several weeks after the official release of the update.
If there is a problem with the program update, Avast should display a warning in the “Status” menu.
If you do not receive the update within 2 months of its official release, please let us know.

Thank you,[/i]

Here are some things you can try if Avast is not updating:

Open Avast
Go to Menu and Settings
Under the General window, click Troubleshooting
Scroll down and click REPAIR APP
You can also manually update virus definitions by clicking Check for updates.

Note: if you use the Avast Repair option as suggested it is best to do a system restart afterwards to apply any fix.
