Avast Free Antivirus - unable to get license key

Hey there,

I’ve got version 11.2 on Win XP (this is critical, and that’s why I have Avast, because it states it still supports XP).

Two weeks ago it showed there’s only 11 days left after registration expiration.

So, I have requested the new key via https://www.avast.com/registration-free-antivirus.php
(like I did last year, because in-app registration didn’t work and it still doesn’t work till now).

The page said I will receive the key in 24 hours…
though, I still haven’t received any emails.
I’ve tried from 3 different mailboxes and checked Spam folder three hundred times.

Okay, today I reached to this PC again to check how it goes and noticed that registration was “magically” renewed on July 6th without any additional actions from my side.

But it currently shows I’m unregistered, and only 28 days left…

Could anyone explain what the hell is this?
Why emails are not being sent?
Why I cannot register anymore?
Why my registration was extended without my involvement and still says I’m unregistered?
What happens after this extended registration expires?

Thanks!

Man, too much questions now, things get worse with Avast these days, sad but true… I used to love it through all these years, and now it is starting to disappoint me.

Licensing got reworked, see: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=198923.0

The latest version (17.x) will also work on XP as long as your CPU supports the SSE2 instructionset.
If your CPU doesn’t support SSE2, the latest version that will work is 2015.x

Side note, SP3 is needed as well.

Thx guys, but none of these answers my questions…
What should I do now for it to work?

According to my UI it looks like my client is in “Legacy” licensing mode.
The Update section says no update is required.

Perform a clean installation of the latest avast version and click on “registration” in the GUI.

Thank you Eddy, will try

Okay, followed the steps from the google doc above…

Downloaded uninstall utility.
Downloaded latest Avast.
Disconnected from the Internet.
Deleted Avast from Control Panel, it asked to reboot > rebooted.

Any of the downloaded binaries (including avastclear.exe, avast_free_antivirus_setup_online.exe, avast_free_antivirus_setup_online_a1g.exe and avast_free_antivirus_setup_offline.exe) throw me an error:

The entry point for procedure GetLogicalProcessorInformation is not found in library DLL KERNEL32.dll.

So, now I have got no antivirus at all =) Great, thanks! =)))

Where can I try to get this 2015.x?

The Avast site does not suggest any type of “archived” versions pages or previous versions downloads (which I found pretty non-friendly).

Finally found the link to 2015 here on forum, but it fails the same way.

Thanks to me, I have a backup exe for version 11 of April 2016 - and it still works, guys.

It means your CPU is not supporting the SS2 instruction set. See if you put a newer cpu in that system that does.

Sure thing I don’t, I need to protect this particular PC with Avast.
If it comes to upgrade I would get a new PC instead of those and probably won’t use Avast on it.

A old CPU that does support the SSE2 instruction set only a few $ nowadays.

Sure a brand new system would be better, but now all people can afford that.
And if you can get continue the current one for a couple of more years

Panda should run on XP according to info http://www.pandasecurity.com/usa/homeusers/solutions/free-antivirus/#
