Avast Free Antivirus Update Version 255.255.65535[Solved]

Recently, Avast free anti-virus has the new update that requires me to update.
However, when I look at the Maintenance Section - Update Panel
It showed a long serial number 255.255.65535

And i checked the forum, the version is still 5.0.594
Just wonder that is the new beta or?

After stop the application, rerun the program. The numbers are gone.

65535 is the number of ports available 2 to the 16th -1

So… this becomes a mathematical question.
Maybe new version is 5.0.655?

No there is no regular released version, 5.0.655.

I have just done a manual program update and it reports up to date, see image.

So I don’t know why yours a) shows ‘Secured’ yet indicated the program version 5.0.594 with the ! and b) why the update shows a new version available.

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. This has in the past resolved this out of sync issue between reported and actual version.
If that has no joy, reboot.

Actually that odd version number there is made from 2 types of variables unsigned byte.unsigned byte.unsigned short. Quite interesting how it managed to show the highest values though and not some random ones.

I wonder if restarting the GUI fixes it? Steps to restart GUI:

  1. check system with mbam anf hitmanpro because see 2)
2 go to settings and under troubleshooting disable self protection
  2. open task manager and kill AvastUI
  3. go to Start menu, navigate to Avast and try to launch it
  4. if this fixed the problem, go back to Settings and re-enable self-protection
  5. else, try what the OP suggested and repair your install

Hi,
before trying the repair option, please send me files setup.ini and setup.log from avast5\setup folder.
You can send them to my email address.

Thanks, Avast team
The problem has been solved.

What resolved it ?

Did you manage to email those files to Forejt ?

mmm, time hasn’t come yet…

I take it that this is an internal build PK, any ideas on the time frame for the next program update ?

sorry, I have no idea (2-3 weeks?) – this falls within vlk’s competence, so it’s entirely up to him… but he usually chooses the most inopportune time (like Saturday 1am or 1hr before evening party), he does it to spite the developers… ;D

Thanks, just 1hr before the party sounds like a strong motivator ;D
