Avast Free Does It Support Anti-Sypwear

Hello just downloaded the free version of Avast and I have to say I like the newer interface much better then the older jukebox style. Actually removed that version because I didn’t like the interface. Seems like everything is perfect doesn’t seem to drag system resources. But I don’t see anything about anti-sypware, does the free edition scan for sypware? I don’t see anything mentioned anywhere in the help section. Also will this program remove cookies like most programs that support spyware does. Thanks seems like a fine program guess I just need to find my way around.

The car stereo look could be turned off ;) does not matter anymore since support for avast 4:x will end soone

should explain it..... http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download if by sypware you mean spyware ?
Also will this program remove cookies like most programs that support spyware does.
No.....waste of time since tracking cookie are not malware....

I actually wanted something that would get rid of tracking cookies and you’re saying it doesn’t have that capability?? I’ll look at the link you provided but I’ve already downloaded and installed and don’t see anything.
Update well I checked out the link it says it does what really doesn’t give any information about how and what, and there’s nothing in the help files about this well guess I’m back to AVG. Thanks

you downloaded and installed what ? EDIT: do you mean this http://www.avast.com/free-antivirus-download on left side it say ANTIVIRUS WITH ANTI-SPYWARE something evry AV today have

The cookie folder can be cleaned with a simple cleaning program…
CCleaner http://www.piriform.com a recomended program to have anyway…

I just wonder why this wasn’t included in the program itself, seems like a nice program otherwise. I have CC didn’t know it had a cookie cleaner but I have the older version maybe I should update it. Thanks

Tom j.

uh, yeah, you should update it.

And why exactly should an Anti-virus software “clean” cookies?

If you want a bloated/slow/obnoxious A/V program, go back to AVG. The reason that Avast is great and fast is because it lacks functionality that simple (free) cleaning programs have.

If you want to clean temp files (ie. cookies), then get a temporary file cleaner as has been suggested. If you want a fast, incredibly efficient A/V, then stick with avast.

Don’t post ultimatums though “well guess I’m back to AVG”, it makes you look like a troll. ::slight_smile:

Can someone tell me what Anti-Spyware Avast removes, can’t find anything in the help files. And I found the cookie removal tool in CC, Thanks

Tom j.

I thought even old versions of ccleaner cleaned cookies… :stuck_out_tongue:

all kind, but no security program have 100% detection so use an extra scanner like Malwarebytes Antimalware www.malwarebytes.org the best malware remover made… OBS: malwarebyte will not clean cookies, only real malware

you can also include Superantispyware as an extra scanner…it does remove cookies, if you run it before you run CCleaner ;D www.superantispyware.com

and yes, you should update CCleaner to latest version

Why would anybody in their right mind use AVG…First off the POP UP to upgrade keeps popping up as soo as you open it, second SLOW on scans, unorganized interfase,UGLY interfase, HEAVY as hell, Updates sometimes work but slow, freezes up constantly, resource hogger, can be disabled easily by malware than becomes useless…Shall I keep going?? I know this because I’ve uninstalled AVG from lots of buddies computers who had malware and trojans
Ohhh!!! I think I know why…“Cleans tracking cookies” sorry if I’m being cruel, but if Avast wasn’t around I guess I would use Avira, it’s almost the same as AVG but much lighter…

Daris,

I have been using Avira Security Suite on one of my computers and have found it to be quite effective and the rating are high with AV-Comparative.

Do you think that the new Avast is actually better than Avira? Why?

Thanks for your impression.

I have used both, in my opinion none block scareware like Avast, even Avira…Actually I recently tried AVG and it blocked the scareware better than Avira, at least the known links that I tried. But I don’t think you can beat Avast, I now have on my PC and my laptop and daughters laptop, my parents pc and laptop, this weekend putting on my buddies laptop!

Thanks for your impressions.

Of course you have a right to your own opinion and by the same right so do others.

If you don’t like the fact that avast doesn’t consider cookies an issue and doesn’t deal with them then you can make your own mind up what to do about it.

Disabling, not accepting 3rd party cookies in your browser (a setting in most browsers) will for the most part completely remove tracking cookies.

You can also use something like cookie monster for firefox (add-on) and that handles other cookies unless you specifically allow a site to place long term time dated cookies, then everything is a session cookie. When you close your browser, session cookies are history.

Avast has …File shield, Mail shield, Web, P2P, IM Shield, Network, Scrit, Behaivour, …So possibe 7 or 8 good shields, plus now with Web Rep and Site blocking and Sandbox…All this “just protection” and DETECTION, and this is the Free Version…On Defense I think it’s awesome…The scans Avast has, Quick scan, Full scan, removable Media, select folders, Windows Explorer, Screen Saver, and you can create Five Custom scans of your own and keep whenever you need to your priority…I have a special scan I always do that I set up… Called it “Auto Rootkit” where It scans Memory, Auto start programs all users, and Rootkits full scan…Takes about 10 minutes and is very affective at finding anything Malicious…Also the scans are set to "Repair, Move to chest, delete…That way I can even schedule the scan and it will automatically do everything for me, and my computer shuts itself off in 1 hour after that…Also the updates are Autmatic and fast…And I like that It does “Talk” and tell me that Avast virus database has been updated…Shows that it’s working…That way I know the update actually did go smooth and assures me…
With Avast you get alot of options and auto care, fast updates, better and more detection…etc…And in the new version there was alot of new features added, Shows that the company is active…With the new Avira and AVG not much has changed…Pop up still there, actually even worse…Also the updates in Avira and AVG are still slow and too few…The Avast interfaze is very organized and in order, and everything is easy to fnd and apply… I can keep going but most of the differences you can compare yourself as to what I have menioned above, and I do not want to knock others down to make my point, or persuade anybody, I want you to see for yourself…Good luck, and good prevention…

Daris,

Thank you for taking the time to explain this to me. I really appreciate it.

Your very welcome Greyowl

If you have any other questions …The Avast Forum guys are very knowlageable…And I noticed… do like a quarrel once in a while but “all in Good Intentions”…And in the end you always do what you yourself decide anyways…But Knowledge, understanding and opinions is always welcome…
