My avast registration has expired.
clicking on “Register Now” in the “Your Registration” page starts “Retrieving Information. Please Wait” but nothing else happens.
I have tried many many times with no success.
Any ideas?
Since this is the free version, Simply do a clean install and register the new install:

I did download a new avast and it completed the install, but no sign of any registration…
version 7.0.2245 is running at the moment.
That’s why I said a “clean” install. Totally remove your current installation using the normal removal through control panel
and follow that with the Avast removal tool.
Follow the instructions outlined. 
I don’t know where you got that version number from, but the latest version is 2016.11.1.2245
Version 8.0.1497 and lower are not supported anymore for about 8(!) months.
well apparently I don’t have sufficient rights to uninstall avast… :
not sure who the administrator would be given that i’m the only user!
should not be a problem when running avast removal tool from safe mode
Still no dice with uninstall with device manager in Safe Mode…
Is there an uninstaller somewhere?
Found the avastclear uninstaller. Fails to download of course… : : :
Stops at 5.4mb of 5.5mb three times…
Does renewal of a license really have to be this hard…?
I guess you never bothered to look at the instructions ??? .
So finally get the 5.5mb avastclear to download and run it in safe mode:
The Stub cannot run installer/updater executable ‘setup\Sfx\instup.exe’ (code 0x3)
Regarding the instructions, I kind of assumed clicking FIX NOW might fix now and clicking REGISTER NOW might register now… : How dumb of me…
Never had these issues before, despite running avast for years…
Those aren’t the instructions I supplied. It’s your computer and your problem.

I guess I now need to try this:
Finally managed to get avast off my machine. I had to copy avastclear.exe into the avast program files folder.
Now the new avast install fails saying the the path is not valid, despite not getting any prompts to enter a path? So I have no idea where it’s trying to install to.
This thing is really putting up a fight!
update! Looks like “Path is not valid” is code for “I’m not going to install with microsoft security essentials on the machine”…
Anyway it is finally installed…
