Avast free freezes computer when open Downloads folder

When i open Downloads folder, avast freezes computer. I was scanning PC with Malwarebytes and HitmanPro and they did not find anything. In the settings, I have set up the heuristic to high. Other settings are deafult. I’m using avast! Free Antivirus 7.0.1474. Is it a bug? I tested other antivirus programs and there’s no problems. Sorry for bad English. Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum!

  • Which OS (32bit/64bit, which Service Pack)?
  • Other security related software installed (before and at the moment)?

With three scanners all running together I’m not in the slightest bit surprised. Less so when you also have avast set to high heuristic sensitivity.

I personally wouldn’t use hitmanpro as there have been some adverse reports from some malware removal specialists that it has deleted important files.

When running a scan by a 3rd party scanner, as it opens a file to scan it, this is likely to trigger avast to lock the file and scan it first. You are complicating this even further by having multiple 3rd party scanners running scans so there is a great deal more activity by avast as these open files to scan.

I’m using Windows XP Professional SP3 32-bit.
I was install Comodo Internet Security.

EDIT:
Not scanned at the same time. First I turned off the avast so I scanned hitman pro and then with malwarebytes.

Is Comodo Internet Security still installed?

DJBone

No.

What happens if you set heuristic to normal?

DJBone

Same thing.

Do you have large files in your download folder, for example images or installers?

DJBone

I have only one installer.

Could you see what is the last scanned file when avast freezes? (Real-Time Shields → File System Shield)

DJBone

Last scanned is the Setup.exe (that Installer). Will avast always do that or not?

Set a exclusion for this file in the File-System Shield settings and try it again if avast freezes.

Did you completly uninstall Comodo ? and How ?

Comodo Forum advises to run RevoUninstaller and then this tool developed by Jacob:
https://forums.comodo.com/install-setup-configuration-help-cis/uninstaller-tool-for-comodo-products-t71897.0.html;msg511531#msg511531

I know that it works but will I have to work this constantly?

I was deinstalled Comodo with this Uninstaller Tool.

Yes, i think so. Set a exclusion for this file and it should work. Avast shouldn’t freeze anymore when you open your download folder.
