there is no provision for inserting new license key in avast free edition before expiry of old license.
Please release an engine update to include this feature.
Why would you need that…??
because i will be gone out for more than a month or so, and in the meanwhile my pc will be used by a kid(naughty and has very basic knowledge of computers, he hates being supervised by an elder while browsing) who cannot register a new license key after the old one expires soon.
So i want to do it myself before i go.
Generally there should be a need for it; 28 days before you need to renew you will get reminders and the avastUI, Maintenance, Registration interface will change to facilitate the on-line renewal or off-line insertion of the key.
If as you say you will be away for more than a month, essentially I would uninstall avast and reinstall the latest version (possibly avast7 in the not to distant future). This will then have the Registration interface available to register.
Is reinstalling the only option? As i have to re-tweak all the settings( there is not method to backup all settings,ignored addresses etc).

Other than using the avastUI, yes is the only way, that is why I threw it into the ring as another option if you don’t trust the user to renew.
Avast7 when released will have an export/import function, so it rather depends on when you are going away and when avast7 is released.
I got a pop-up renewal notice 30 days before my expiration date, and could renew anytime after the pop-up notification. (Avast Free)
