Just acquired a new laptop, updated to Win10Pro, tried to install Avast Free and use the Passwords feature. When I get to the step where it asks me to enter a password to activate, Avast becomes unresponsive. I can click in the window where the password is supposed to be typed in, but as soon as I click in the window Avast stops responding.
I tried repairing Avast and that didn’t work.
I tried uninstalling in safe mode without internet connection and reinstalled but got the same result.
I already used the Avast uninstall utility to uninstall Avast in Safe Mode. Then I installed Avast again and I get the same result. Attempting to activate the Password feature causes Avast not to respond when I depress any key on the keyboard.
It isn’t technically a new system but it is new to me. It’s a Dell E6430 i7 with upgrade to WIN10. I bought this laptop and an identical one and they have no other anti-virus software on them. I have disabled Windows Defender but Windows Firewall is running (However I did try getting Avast to activate while Windows Firewall was off, too). I installed Avast free version on the other one and had no problems at all. But this laptop is giving me problems. It seems to work fine until I try to activate the Password feature. As soon as I try to type a master password in the blank, Avast stops responding. Other features of Avast free seem to work fine.
Perform a repair of avast and see if that solves the problem.
If not, run Farbar and attach two logs to a post here (FRST.txt and Addition.txt)
Let’s see if we can find something that shouldn’t be on the system.
Not saying we will or that removing it will solving the problem, but at least a check doesn’t hurt
I’ve uninstalled Avast using the Windows utility while offline. Then used Avast uninstaller while in Safe Mode. Then I reinstalled using the offline version of Avast Free, running in Administrator mode. Shut down laptop. Restarted and it still becomes unresponsive as soon as I try to create a password for the Password feature. Here are the files you asked for:
