Hi,
I installed avast 4.1 (german) home edition several week ago and everything worked quite well. Last week I received a new version via auto update (4.5 I guess). After installing this version; the software requested a reboot.
After the reboot the system hangs while starting the avast systray item.
I uninstalled the software in safe mode und reinstalled it, with the same effect. ???
Any help?
I found the reason for my problem.
As soon as my kerio pf (4.1.2) starts while avast! is running, my system freezes.
If I disable the firewall, avast works fine.
Though I’m sitting behind a router, I don’t want to disable the pf since I’d like to control my outgoing connections at application level.
Since Avast 4.1.x worked fine with Kerio I would rather blame this effect on Avast than on Kerio.
Is anyone here who works with Kerio and Avast!?
I could not send emails after Dec. 1. I assume it is due to the Avast update. I am using the English version and Outlook Express on W2K Pro.
This is the error message:
The connection to the server has failed. Account: “XXX”, Server:‘outgoing.verizon.net’, Protocol: SMTP, Port 26, Secure(SSL): No, Socket 10060, Error Number: 0x800CCC0E
My outging SMTP port was 26. If I change it to 25 and change the parameter “SmtpListen” to “127.0.0.1:25” in Avast4.ini file I can send mail.
I agree with technical, you should have started a new thread, but anyway, you can not change port numbers at your will. Either your mail provider runs a SMTP server on port 26 (which I strongly doubt) or on port 25.
So you either connect to the server ‘outgoing.verizon.net’ port 26, or to the server ‘outgoing.verizon.net’ port 25. On which port listens avast! on your PC is absolutely irrelevant, providing that it uses unique port with respect to other applicatons on YOUR PC.
