I normally reboot every day but I’ve found that if I leave the PC on for several days, Avast starts operating really slowly. Starting an application for example may take 10x as long. It cannot be related to applications since I run the same stuff immediately after reboot as in a couple of days time. Running XP.
Avast shows no high CPU usage in Task Manager but it clearly is the problem. Disabling Shields cures the problem immediately, until the Shields restart. The PC “feels” a bit like it does when it is doing an update. I’ve found no work around to date other than rebooting. Anyone else have the problem or a non-reboot solution?
I was using AVG which uninstalled normally. If there was a conflict surely it would show immediately, not days after a reboot? There is no evidence of the AVG program although there are a number of keys remaining in the registry.
Edit: I just ran the AVG removal tool which seems to have eliminated the remaining registry entries. No reboot was needed so I assume the program previously uninstalled without issues.
Thanks for the info. I’ve disabled the Behavioral Shield to see if the problem goes away. Unfortunately it’s one of those things that takes days to manifest.
Re the pre-release version, I’ll hang on until the full release. The problem I have is more of a nuisance than needing an immediate fix.
