Avast giving a strange notification?

Please forgive me if I am posting this in the incorrect section. To start off, I’m using an HP Compaq with Windows 7 Professional and the free version of Avast! (Avast! Free Antivirus 2015). I scan regularly with both Avast! and Malwareytes and my scans always come back clean. I also run Google Chrome in Sandboxie to give myself an extra layer of defense when browsing.

Twice yesterday and once today, a total of three times, Avast! has given me a notification in the lower-right of my screen. I have posted what it said below:

Avast Web Shield has blocked access to this page because the following certificate has been revoked: *.lijit.com

Every time this has happened, I have been on a non-malicious website reading information. I have never been to lijit.com, to my knowledge, and I don’t know what this website is. The first two times, I think I was on the IMVU website’s forums. The second, I was on Yahoo! Answers, which I use frequently and never have received a warning about. Every time I get the notification, I’m running Chrome in Sandboxie.

Does anyone know what this notification actually means and what steps I should take from here? Thanks, and be safe!

Did you see my reply in the topic you started yesterday?

If you clear Chrome chache does it go away?

Does sandboxie have a chache?

I’m sorry. I did not see your advice to clear the cache. I did see your reply, but I guess I overlooked that part? I don’t mean to be disruptive. I’m just trying to get to the bottom of this. If I’ve broken a rule, then direct me to a list of forum rules so I can prevent doing that again.

I’ve just been researching this issue on Google, and in all of Google, I’ve found only one…just one other person who reported an occurrence of the same sort.

I will try clearing the cache now, but I can tell you that the first time I received this notification, I tried clearing the cache, and I continued receiving it even after that. I can try again, but I’m not sure how effective it would be.

I don’t know how to tell you right now if it goes away, because I do not know what triggered it in the first place. I’ll respond when I know.

It is not a forum rule, but if you start a new topic evrytime you ask a question about the same issue it will be cahos replying to you … like writing a new book for evry page instead of having all pages related in the same book

so lets stay in this topic

i replyed to your topic yesterday trying to explain what it could be

a temporary solution if the popup is annoying could be to turn off https scan, try that and see if the popup goes away

Avast 2015: Managing HTTPS scanning in Web Shield https://www.avast.com/en-us/faq.php?article=AVKB189#artTitle

I cleared the cache, re-started the browser in the sandbox and I ran a full scan with Malwarebytes, which came back clean. However, the notification still pops up, and again, I was on Yahoo!'s website when it did.

You could also try updating to the latest version of Avast and see if that fixes the problem:

I’ve got it popping up repeatedly since my last update. Didn’t happen before. I’m on the latest Firefox browser.

As others have said, this started happening after the latest update, not before… it’s obviously an issue with Avast. Hopefully they will fix it.

I have been getting the same popup for about a week now.Windows 7 Pro . It happens just about anywhere ( email and known pages ) :-[ . And also freezes the browser ( both Explorer and Firefox) . And yes it happened right after the last update of Avast!!

A screenshot would be helpful.

It’s essentially a browser hacker. Does Avast have any idea on how to get rid of it?

BOB 3160- A copy of the darn popup for you .By the way, it has been posted by other users before in this thread.

BY the way , I have Avast Internet Security 2015 …

This afternoon the little window with the" *.lijit.com " was popping like crazy on known sites like Msn,Yahoo, airlines and the like. In the meantime the pages froze so I had to close the browser ( it happens in Firefox and Explorer ) and open again . I went to Mozilla to try what they had just in case and it did not help. Finally I turned off the firewall on Avast Internet security and the freezes stopped and no sight of the annoying little window. I have it on again now ( avast firewal)

Any comments?

I don’t have Avast’s firewall and it still does it, but seems to be less.

The “popup” comes from the webshield not the firewall.
