Avast globe icon not spinning

I installed the lastes version of Avast Home yesterday but I am not sure if it is working. Normally, the Avast globe icon in the notification area of the taskbar spins whenever there is any activity eg when opening outlook express or downloading mail etc. But since installing the latest version the icon is static. Is this how it should be?

Hi nichevo,
Check by right clicking the tray icon, “program settings”, from the menu select “appearance”, check that the box “animate icon when scanning” is ticked.

Thanks for the reply Tarq57.

I have checked that “animate icon when scanning” box is ticked. Should I reinstall or is the non-spinning icon insignificant ?

Check that the providers you want running are actually running.
Check the “scanned file count” in the standard shield. (Left click the ball, select Standard shield, note the count.)
Try opening a web page - just browsing her should do it - and while it is opening, does the ball spin?
Recheck the scanned count. Has it increased? If so, protection can be seen to be working, then we have to troubleshoot the appearance issue.

And yes, it should spin. Did you restart the PC after installing Avast?

PS, after checking the scanned count, close out of there, and re-open it after doing some browsing.

Scanned file count increases both in the standard shield and the network shield.

Yes, I did restart the PC after installing Avast, although not immediately.

Can you try to repair your installation?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair).

If you left click the ‘a’ blue icon, click Details button, select the providers at left, is it shown any info about files being scanned?

OK problem solved. I stopped the Avast program, restarted it, rebooted the computer and now the icon is spinning.

Thanks for all your advice, Tarq57.

Cool, well done.
A repair as suggested above by Tech is often a good first step if something’s not right, should you need that in the future.
