Avast GUI Window preventing left clicks

Hi, I’ve been using Avast for quite a long time, but just recently encountered a very frustrating bug after restarting my computer where I am unable to left click on anything in the Avast GUI menus, or in the Avast system tray menus. I am able to hover over them with the mouse and the GUI buttons will react (changing to a hand mouse pointer and the button darkening for example) but clicking has no effect. Furthermore, once I open the Avast GUI window I am unable to left click on anything else on the screen even outside the Avast Window, until I right click the Avast taskbar icon and close the Avast GUI window.

I tried rebooting in safe mode, uninstalling and reinstalling a new version of Avast, but the problem persists even with the new installation of Avast. My mouse hasn’t displayed any irregularities interacting with other programs, so I’m left thinking it’s a problem with a new update from Avast, but so far I haven’t seen any other users mentioning similar problems yet?

I’m using Windows 7 Home SP1 64bit for reference, help or advice appreciated!

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Hello KFor84,
thank you for reporting the bug. We already know about this issue and it will be fixed in version 18.3 which should be release at the end of month.

It’s now been over 2 months and I have Avast Free Version 18.4.2338 and this issue is still not resolved. Was the issue that was supposed to be fixed in 18.3 a different one or was that fix delayed for some reason? The issue has become annoying enough that I’m going to have to switch to something else permanently if it’s not resolved soon.

You could try the latest beta: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?board=15

use the free version of Avast 18.4.2338.
There isn’t any mouse problem that I’m aware of.
