I’ve given the newer versions of Avast several chances now but never seem to have any luck. I’m currently using 6.0.1000 with Windows XP. Currently, I get issues where AvastSvc.exe will use all the CPU. This seems to happen after going into screen saver mode, but I am not positive. Any thoughts on this? I’d like to stick with the newer versions of Avast but this is my third attempt and I’m about to give up. The other times I had it installed it was generally super slow on startup which caused me to go back. Now everything seems to work fine until Avast hangs for whatever reason.
you can try PRE-RELEASE 6.0.1044 here http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=74515.0
What are your computer specs? What other security are you running in real time?
I was running Spybot but I uninstalled it and I’m still having the issue on occasion.
The computer is a less than 2 year old Dell Latitude E5500. 2.4GHz. Not sure on the RAM and all that.
Spybot is a joke. Please take a minute to download Speccy. It will give you full details on your pc. What are you running for a firewall and what is your OS? System slow downs are usally related to something eating up all your ram or cpu. You can also use Process Hacker to see which program is using up all your ram. How many start up items do you have?

AvastSvc.exe is what was eating up all my CPU. Using Windows firewall. Startup isn’t currently an issue. It was Avast hanging. It hasn’t happened since earlier today, but when it does occur it requires a system restart to clear it.
Download Avast Free 6.0.1044. Uninstall your Avast and reboot. Install the new version and see what happens. Your system has enough power.
