Avast hangs on a file

Hi,
I just installed Avast and i tried to check my complete computer 2 times and each time it hangs on a file. No check was completed for the moment.
The software is still here but doesn’t respond. It’s like it has a problem to check a file.

ashsimpl uses 99% cpu time.

my system is Windows XP Pro service pack 2, 256 Mo RAM, mobile intel pentium 4M 2000 MHz
computer : compaq evo N800v

Do you have scanning sensitivity set to Thorough? In that case, it may take a LONG time to check a (big) file.
Do you have any huge files on your disk? (e.g. > 1GB - DVD images, disk images etc)…
