I have created a problem for myself with my Avast anti virus software.
I pressed “Update Program” (see Avast Update.jpg attached) recently and it stopped working.
Avast Status.jpg shows my problem.
Avast File System Shield.jpg shows what happens if I press the File System Shield Start button.
However, Avast indicates that my Subscription is active.
Please advise me as to what to do to fix this issue.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Its best to try to uninstall and reinstall.
Uninstall Avast
Run the Avast Uninstall Utility
Install the latest version

Thanks for the inrfo.
I feared that I would have to re-install.
Long story.

No fearing needed. Will only take you 10 minutes at the most.

Did you reboot after installing?
Did you try an Avast Repair before trying the uninstall/clean install?
Go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > Avast Antivirus.
Scroll down and choose Repair function in the pop-up window.
Reboot.
If the Repair does not help, the you need to uninstall / boot / install / boot again.
Let us know how things go. Thank you.
I was going to advise to re-run install package. If that does not work…re-run set-up click repair.

Past experience tells me that it is a long & painful process.
It was given to me by a friend & although it is a legal copy as he paid for it, for reasons I don;t understand, getting it to accept the licence was a nightmare. My friend runs a computer repair business & he is away at the moment.

I tried to repair it as suggested but it did not work.
So I had to uninstall & then re-installed it.
But I only have the trial version.
I’ll have to wait for my friend to return to show me how to solve the licence issue.
Thanks for your suggestions, much appreciated.
You should have been sent the licence-file (*.avastlic) when you first bought the product.
Simply doubleclick that file or insert it via Avast GUI.

Thanks for your suggestion, but my friend did not give me the licence file.
He is a computer repairman & has a bulk licence as he gives Avast to his customers.
So I assume that the procedure he told me to follow is necessary because of this.
However, the problem is now solved as I received an email from him this morning explaining how to do it.
