Avast has let me down

Hello,

My ex wife is a paid subscriber to Avast. I have just spent two days removing Browser protect, Mapgalaxy toobar and Delta search virus from her PC. This led to her being without internet access for two weeks whilst i worked out what to do. More amazingly when i deleted the last programme from the machine Avast suddenly announced there was an issue and started a scan. I used my laptop to get the info i needed to remove all these things my self which i don’t think i should have had to do when we are paying for a virus guard.

What is the point of a virus guard and firewall if it doesn’t pick these things up?

Heathy.

first, no security program have 100% detection.

toolbar crap and browser hijackers are not virus as they usually come bundled with programs you download
and often installed when just clicking, next, next, next …and not reading what the install info say

some of this crap may be detected by avast if PUP scan is turned on…PUP scan is default off
PUP = not a virus/Possible Unwanted Program

run AdwCleaner…click delete…post log here
you find it here. http://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=53253.0

also run a quick scan with malwarebytes from same guide…

Browser protect, Mapgalaxy toobar and Delta search virus
All of these are adware pups, and Avast will not detect these unless you switch that module on. They came bundled with software that was installed by you without checking what it was doing. No antivirus will block those

any user can infect any PC, no matter what the protection is. Are you still using JAVA and Flash?

Yep. Why?

Java is such a leaky sieve now that unless you really need it I would recommend uninstalling
