Avast High CPU Usage

Hello there, I’ve been trying to find why was my PC getting lags and I finally found the culprit, it looks like for some reason Avast uses 100% of my CPU at some random moments (but most of the time at night) and last for a couple of seconds.

I didn’t had this problem on my old computer (Intel CPU, win7) but I actually have it on this one (AMD Ryzen 5 1600 CPU, win10) and Avast is on gamer mode, this happens when I’m playing a game most of the time, it would be nice if I could get an explaination because I’m really clueless about why it is happening.

Thanks for any answer helping me out !

See if it helps to disable Anti-Rootkit in troubleshooting.

Yes, Avast is the culprit for me too. CPU usage up to 50% from Avast Firewall service. Rootkit disabling didn’t help me.

Hi r.bragnir,
we would need performance log to find which component uses your CPU.

  1. download windows performance toolkit (winddows 7 - https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=3138 ) - just install performance tools xperf !
  2. Run cmd line as admin and type : xperf.exe -on DiagEasy+DISPATCHER+Profile -stackwalk profile+CSwitch+ReadyThread -start user -on 72AA3505-D4D6-4527-A088-92534DA1082C (xperf is usually located at c:\Program Files (x86)\Windows Kits(Sdk number)\Windows Performance Toolkit\xperf.exe)
  3. Wait for CPU peak
  4. xperf.exe -stop user -stop -d xperf_merged.etl
  5. Upload xperf_merged.etl file to avast ftp

Thank you
