Avast Home and Google Chrome

I installed Avast Antivirus Home and Google Chrome on Vista Home. Google Chrome 6 months ago, and Avast 2 days ago. After experiencing problems, I uninstalled and re-installed Chrome.

I am running both of them in an “out of the box” state, with no changes to any of the options.

  1. Opening Google Chrome, and them clicking on a shortcut folder and opening the folder as new tabs, Chrome crashes 9 out of 10 times. The folder contains 9 websites. Some are using scripts, or Java, or Flash. However, before loading Avast, I never experienced this problem. Somehow, Avast and Chrome are not interacting properly. If I stop Avast’s “Access Protection” the problem ceases and Chrome easily handles the load.

  2. Running Chrome and Avast, and opening Hotmail Inbox through mail.live.com I receive the following error:
“We can’t connect to Windows Live Hotmail right now. Please make sure that you’re connected to the Internet and try again”
I can open the various folders and emails after much clicking and general fooling around. Not critical, but annoying. If I turn off Avast this problem ceases.

I am guessing that it has something to do with how Avast handles scripts, or Java, or Flash, and how Avast interacts with Chrome. Seems one of them is timing out too early.

There are no crash reports generated in Chrome.

Any hope?

Hi JP,

Recently i am running with avast 5 AIS + Google Chrome 3.0.195.33, and so far there is not interuption or trouble with my avast and chrome.

Is there another AV or tool which crash with avast?

As said (or implied) above: what was the AV installed prior to Avast?
What firewall?
What other security software?

I also use Avast (4.8) and Google Chrome (3.0.195.33) and I don’t experience those crashes.

As the others have suspected, I suspect the same. Possible software conflict amongst security software. Check for Firewalls, other AVs.
