If you uninstall avast, it’s not guilty here…
Maybe, as I’ve posted before, you should open your own thread for this.
When you do that, we will need more information to be able to help you:

  • Which OS are you using? Is it up to date?
  • What avast! version (4.7.xxx) and VPS file (virus database) number?
  • Which actions have you taken to try solving the problem?
  • Do you use a firewall? Which one?
  • Do you have any other antivirus installed in your system?
  • Any other security programs that could interfere?
  • Any useful information into Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Events, specially ‘Errors’.

    There’s some additional info for u:

-Avast 4.7 home
-Windows XP, updated
-Additional protective software is: Adware, MAX registry.No other antivirus.
-VPS 000757-3
If you tell me what other programs could interfere with Avast software, then i can answer.

And, more polite tech support answer would be nice to read!=)

there is very little thread discipline in avast and so having multiple discussions going on in this thread makes life confusing.

However, I use the gmail extension every day with with Thunderbird. If you need help with getting it to work let me know and we can discuss it outside this messy thread.

I dont really understand what do u mean under “Without Avast Installed”???
Where are u from? Is there any possible way to call the office or tech support?
Meanwhile, I have already said before : Avast 4.7 Home edition has been installed on my laptop. But it doesn’t want to scan my comp! And the message I have already posted.

Ok…Please, I’ll repeat it again. Sure, I like repeat stuff something i don’t really know about!;=))) It’s been an interesting experience so far with the Avast team!..=))))))
Now, Avast was uninstalled. LONG TIME ago. BUT! I have installed it AGAIN, 2nd TIME. And after this last installation Avast gives me ERROR 183 as soon as atempt scanning my comp instead of working nicely as it’s promised.

You not playing me, right?=))
I’m just a simple Russian girl who is trying figure some computer s*** out!=))) So, i just need you to help to solve it faster, than it has been going so far…

Ok. But so far nobody can really answer my questions ab. Avast 4.7 here. I can’t use it.
