new to this site…hope someone can help…after my PC has been on and unused for a few hours the avast icon (as well as some others such as skype) seem to dissappear. I cannoy get the icon back on via the avast programme. It looks like avast is still working cos when I open outlook the avast screen momentarily flashes up.

Aren’t the icons hidden by Windows XP?
Do you have a triangle icon to ‘expand’ your notification area in the task bar?
Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?
Other possibility is trying to repair your installation: go to Control Panel > Add/Remove programs > avast! antivirus > Remove. Then choose Repair function in the popup window (Repair). You must be connected to the internet while repairing.
