Avast icon not displayed

Bonjour,

Why does the Avast icon do not appear in the task bar with Windows 8.1, even the Avast parameters are OK. It appears only after having manually opened Avast.
Is the PC protected if the icon is not displayed ?
What can I do to solve this problem ?

Pierre

Perform a repair and see if that solves it.

Thank you Eddy for your answer.
But I don’t know what you mean by “perform a repair”, a repair of what ? How to do it ?

Pierre

Repair of Avast.
Control Panel > Programs and Features (Ad / Remove Programs) > Select Avast > Scroll down and select Repair.
When it finishes the procedure, REBOOT your system and see if the problem is now fixed.

Thank you Eddy.
But the repair of Avast changes nothing.
The Avast icon is displayed only after having opened Avast by the desktop shortcut.
In Avast Parameters, Display Avast icon in the task bar is correctly checked.
I hope that even the Avast icon is not displayed the system is protected.

Pierre

I hope that even the Avast icon is not displayed the system is protected.
Eicar test file (not a virus) http://www.eicar.org/85-0-Download.html

Also to test Web Shield blocks: http://www.avast.com/eng/test-url-blocker.html Not a virus or malware. Asyn posted this one a while ago.

After having done different things, after several restarts I can say the Avast icon is now displayed normally, I don’t know exactly why !!!
I thank you all for your suggestions and advices.
Windows Defender prevented me to download eicar.org files.

Pierre

I was already wondering where my computer Gremlin went, but it seems he was visiting your system ;D
It is working again and that is what matters.

I do suggest to disable Windows Defender:

Windows Defender prevented me to download eicar.org files.
Then you now have tested Defender ;) to test avast, turn off Defender

Defender should have been disabled automatically when Avast was installed so if it is still enabled then that is a problem in itself :o

That depends on the version of Windows installed on the users computer.
Defender is simple ad-ware blocking through Windows 7.

He’s on W8.1, see his initial post.

Bob’s still dazed after all those Christmas cookies and chocolates

Thank you, had a similar problem. All is now working!
