I am wondering how to get my avast icon back into the systray.
After the icon is reinstated I will ask about how to delete files, and which files to delete, that are deemed infected, from the Virus Chest and from the other place where there are more of them accumulated, perhaps quarantine.
I have to look at the list of quarantined files. A virus was found recently and I put it in the chest. I have to say that in the past I was able to delete from the chest, and now the AVAST software has changed so everything just sits there.
This is more of a statement explaining myself than a question but I think it is related.
“The way I discovered that it wasn’t in the systray is when I needed to know why I was getting the microsoft error message that “due to an error, this page has to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience”. After following up the details of that message I learned that a .dll was either missing or not being accessed from my recent installation of an HP Photosmart printer/scanner/copier. So my first thought was to look for a virus and there was nothing to click on. I looked at the scan window from accessing AVAST in Program Files. Apparently the computer had already scanned and nothing obvious was found.” I think I need some help to decipher the files that are listed.
Thanks,
Suziar
If that does not help, please, uninstall, boot, install again, boot.
What other security based software do you have that might block new startup entries, e.g. Spybot S&D (TeaTimer), AdAware (AdWatch), SpySweeper, Spyware Doctor (StartUpGuard), PrevX, WinPatrol, ProcessGuard, etc.?
If you right click a file you can delete it from Chest.
But why are you in a hurry? Files in Chest are safe and you can let them there for further investigation, avoiding, for instance, false positives.
Do you use any other antivirus in this computer? Had one in the past?
