Avast Icon Not Spinning Vista Home Premium

I just recently purchased a copy of Vista Home Premium, did a clean install. I noticed that the Avast icon on the lower right does not spin anymore like on my XP machine. When I mouse over it the icon, the on access protection is running.

I have installed it twice on the second time I turned off windows bit defender to see if that is conflicting with it but no luck either. Any help or info would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you double-click it, what does it say in the “Scanned count” field?

Thanks
Vlk

I have just notice now that I do not see the “standard shield” under installed providers when I click on the icon. When I go to the windows security center it recognizes the avast av. There is option to “turn on” now and when I do that i get the following error in an avast box “Unknown Error Progam Cannot Activate Resident Part (Standard Shield Not Found.)”

When I installed avast I went with the default settings and did not uncheck any protection settings. The version I have is 4.7.942.

Please check the registry key:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\aswMonFlt

Does it exist?
Also, can you confirm that the file \windows\system32\drivers\aswMonFlt.sys exists?

Thanks
Vlk

Yes, both registry and file does exist.

It seems to be working now. I went to the control panel and uninstall/change program. I went into the “change” option for avast and I saw that the standard shield had a red X. I checked it and restarted the computer and it seems to be working now.

As I stated before I just went with the default settings and even did it twice. Why it disabled it or did not install it is weird. But I appreciate your insight, it help me narrow down the problem. Thanks a lot!!!
