Avast! in Consumer Reports

In the September 2005 issue of Consumer Reports, they have a section on AV programs, and Avast! is included. It comes in fifth, with the biggest knock seeming to be lack of phone support (I think these forums are better, and let them know so in a letter)

But, just to be included was pleasant to see. Tells me Avast! is hitting the big time…

By the way, Trend Micro was 1st, Kaspersky 2nd, BitDefender 3rd, and Norton 4th (they were VERY close to Norton, though…) Avast! was fifth, but McAfee was sixth, Panda was 7th, and eTrust was 7th. That other big free AV company, AVG, was not even included…

The ratings can be seen here.

If any of you feel like writing a letter to the editor explaining how the forums are better than phone support, here is a link to get you started. I have already written such a letter…

I think (looking at the stats) if avast 4 home had the ability to schedule a scan the overall rating would have been higher than NAV as that was the only difference between the two rankings (with two very good and one excellent grades).

Not to mention value for money which wasn’t a factor in the ConsumerReport, to that is a major thing for consumers, avast would have scored full marks being the only free version in the top 8.

I also don’t understand how NAV got an excellent in the Versatility category when they only gave avast a very good?

I don’t understand either, they just didn’t have enough time to get to know avast! Had they done so its easy to understand avast! is the most versatile of all AV’s

Anyway this should be a big boost for avast!, especially in the US market

I’m tired of comparisons and reviews :frowning:
What kind of tester give excellent to NAV in versatility? Never used or tested anything else.
Sure NAV is a good antivirus but in the topic of versatility? :stuck_out_tongue:

It was an honor just to be there…

It will be better if you introduce yourself 8)
Of course it’s an honor to be there but, after all, a bad revision (or a weak one) won’t tell in favor of this honor… ::slight_smile:
