Was logging on to a user account after updating the Admin on the internet, then logging off from that account and logging into the user. At about the time the AvastUI.exe would normally show in the system task tray, it did not, and then the two attached error dialog boxes displayed, first was the init error, cleared that, then the application error, cleared that. Waited to see if avast icon would show. AvastUI.exe never did start. I waited a bit, and then manually started the program by clicking the icon in the IE Quick Start tray.
BTW, I did not use “Switch User” to log on to user account.
Avast! started. Avast GUI now states “System Secured”, so nothing seems amiss for now.
Each error box alerted with a Critical Stop sound.
I called up Task Manager. avastUI.exe was not running, but avastSvc.exe was, and this was before I manually initiated the GUI.
Have searched the forum for similar issues, did not find very many. Unlike some posts, system stability is, and was not, affected. System seems stable so far.
Where do I start the investigation as to why these errors came up in the first place? Where to begin?
Sorry, but Online Armor is not on the system. Have COMODO Firewall Free v. 5.10.228257.2253. Need to update user info at the bottom, I guess. (Used an image program to restore as if Online was never present)
No system crashes yet, but cold boot into admin today yielded no COMODO icon in system tray. As above, starting GUI via Start>Programs, started the icon. Task Manager was missing cmdagent.exe, but on manual initialization, that did show. cfp.exe was running at the time.
Only recent change to the system is the installation of a wireless adapter made by NETGEAR, model WNA3100. Installation via CD went smoothly, adapter was connected, and the automatic protocol was used to discover the SSID and WPA2 password. The in-home Q1000 DSL modem is the only one ever used; can see up to 17 wireless networks out there.
Interestingly, COMODO never saw this new wireless adapter; it is still on same network as the wired one, Home # 1.
Also, NETGEAR Genie says I am connected to the router (Q1000 is a combo router/modem) but not connected to the internet. Yet the internet still works. ???
UPDATE: No repeat of issues since August 11th. So, good. Appears to be a one-time deal. Any further advice on securing a wireless connection, as noobie with wireless. Is a WPA2-PSK connection.
