I’m running widows Vista. This a.m., threatfire popped up a virus warning (and quarantined) this file: C:\Program Files\AlwilSoftware\Avast4\ashmaiSv.exe labeled a trojan Win32downloader.
I opened Avast and it shows Infected count: 0 for all 7 shields.
However, the normally active Internet Mail Shield is not running. There is a message at the top (underneath the title ‘Internet Mail’) that says “The Provider is waiting for a subsystem to start”.
I did run onecarelive last night which found nothing.
Any ideas? I haven’t tried anything yet, should I start by uninstalling/reinstalling?
A false positive by threatfire and you should report it to them and restore ashMaiSv.exe, which is the Internet Mail provider and why you can’t run the provider.
Threatfire is not a signiture based AV, its based more on behaviour. Its apparently highly recommended, and the makers claim it runs well along side your existing AV.
As far I know there is not a problem with ThreatFire running side by side with an antivirus.
ThreatFire is a behavior tool, a zero-day attack prevention, not an antivirus.
But, for sure, that ThreatFire alert against ashMaiSv.exe (the Internet Mail service of avast) is a false positive.
