Avast Internet Security firewall won't allow internet connection

My laptop just lost connection last week while online. It connects to my Wi-Fi but says no internet connection. We finally traced it down to the firewall in Avast Internet Security. I can disable for 10 minutes and the internet connects immediately. I wanted to disable permanently and use Windows Firewall but it won’t work, saying windows firewall can’t change some of your settings Error code 0x80070424.

What do I need to do to establish my internet connection again? Please explain like you are talking to a 5 year old.

Thanks in advance.

Anyone?

Steps to remove the firewall:

  • go to programs and features in Windows
    [li]select Avast! and click ‘uninstall/change’
    [/li]
    • choose the ‘change’ tab and continue
    • untick firewall from the ‘tools’ column and continue
    • wait … done
    • be sure to at least enable the Windows firewall (might need a reboot before)
