I installed a disk image a few months old, containing the version before last. Avast asked me to update the program. I did, but afterwards it did not start with “failed to load language.dll (2057)” problem. Then I repaired it through Windows Programs and Features. Now it still does not start and gives the following error window:
The exception unknown software exception (ox06d007f) occurred in the application at location 0x777bc41f.
What can I do to make it work, please? I read in the forum that people uninstalled with Avast uninstallaer, but the language.dll error remained.
Edit: This last message keeps coming back every time I click on OK to make it go; so it stays permanently on the screen.
Uninstall Avast by control panel [If you don’t have Avast in control Panel go to #4]
Uninstall in safe mode using Avastclear.
Run Rejzors Uninstall Utility in Normal Mode (removes traces avastclear doesn’t) - reboot.
Check : Once uninstalled check in device manager>view>show hidden devices if there is anything related to avast with a yellow triangle… if so, uninstall it and reboot.
Install the version you downloaded.
Reboot.
Note : If you have a paid license, install it after the reboot at stage 6.
Some of your instructions I had already done, than I followed the other ones, but no way, it never started. Then I searched through directories and files and found there was another directory named Avast with the same usually installed files, as a second installation. I cleaned them up with Avastcleaner to also delete their corresponding registry keys, as I thought it would do. After this I reinstalled, updated and it was fine as before. What a headache!
