Avast Internet Security shows false "licence has expired" message

Hello,

First of all, happy new year to everyone! The problem I have as of today is that I have purchased an Avast Internet Security licence for 1 year for 3 computers about a month ago and today on one of the computers my Avast is reporting that my licence has expired (on the other 2 computers everything works fine). I have tried to insert the licence file again but when the message “Your avast licence has been successfully inserted, Avast will now upgrade, etc.” appears, I click OK and then it’s showing the upgrade window but nothing happens, it’s not downloading any files like it should. Microsoft Security center is showing that there is no antivirus protection turned on, saying “Avast antivirus is turned off”, while at the firewall section it’s saying that “Avast Internet Security is turned on”. I don’t really know why this is happening, does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong?

Cheers,
Laszlo

Check that you don’t have any other security software running that might be blocking AIS from downloading.

Thanks for the quick response. I do not have any other security software installed that might be blocking Avast so I doubt that is the problem. Last night I did do some cleaning on the computer and deleted one of the user accounts but I don’t think that could be the cause.

Things are getting even more complicated now as I can’t even do a reinstall, I get the error message “lnstup.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close”. About twenty minutes ago I was able to open the installer so I don’t know what happened. I shut down the computer, unplugged it and turned it back on, now the Avast icon doesn’t even appear on the taskbar.

When I try to launch Avast IS by double clicking the desktop icon I’m getting an error message “Failed to load language dll [1033/UILangRes.dll]”. There’s no 1033 folder in the Program Files/Avast folder, only 1038. Please help!

First off, is your PC data and time correct?

I’d recommend a clean install:

  1. Download Avastclear, Rejzors uninstall tool and the appropriate Avast program edition

Note: You need to be ONLINE during this install

Avastclear : http://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avastclear.exe
Rejzors Uninstall tool: http://rejzor.wordpress.com/avast-cleanup-tool/

  1. Uninstall Avast by control panel [If you don’t have Avast in control Panel go to #4]
  2. Uninstall in safe mode using Avastclear.
  3. Run Rejzors Uninstall Utility in Normal Mode (removes traces avastclear doesn’t) - reboot.
Check : Once uninstalled check in device manager>view>show hidden devices if there is anything related to avast with a yellow triangle… if so, uninstall it and reboot.
  4. Install the version you downloaded.
  5. Reboot.

It is asking for the English language pack.

That error was address by Vlk previously…

As I was unable to uninstall Avast from the Control Panel, I just downloaded the offline installer for Avast free, ran the installer and then inserted my licence file into Avast free and things seem to be working fine now, so for now problem solved.

Thank you for the responses!
