Avast interrupting Internet Connection and then dying?

Hi!

I have been having intermittent problems with my internet connection on my computer dropping out (on my ASUS win 7 pro laptop) while all other devices remain connected just fine. I switched off the option for my computer to power manage the network adapter and i thought that fixed it but the problem has come back

Subsequently, I tried something that I had neglected before, I switched off my avast premier av and after this the internet reconnected straight away - what does this mean?

also once the internet reconnected Avast itself seemed to have completely stopped responding, it no longer could be accessed at all, no matter what I clicked on to reopen it, it would not even bring up the right click menu in the toolbar, yet its icon was still there - I find this concerning, naturally I did a restart once more so now I am back online and with avast going so it seems,

how do I get to the root of the problem here, what is causing avast to interrupt my internet connection and then itself stop working? am I under attack?

Repair Avast:

  1. Control Panel → Add/Remove programs → Avast
  2. Click on ‘Repair’.
  3. Follow instructions.
  4. Reboot.

If Repair doesn’t fix the problem, try the following:
Clean Install of Avast:

Thanks i will try the clean install option because i did the previous option and the problem has not gone away

something strange too is that the problem will only happen once in a day and usually when i go to my outlook.com account in my firefox browser, and at some point when i am there whether in trying to delete spam, or send a reply or other usual things, the connection drops. - i tried just turning off avasts firewall and going with the windows one, but the problem did not go away. Only when i disabled all m avast shields did my internet connection come back so this is clearly an Avast problem.

of course i cannot function with no antivirus so, i try to re-enable my shields but Avast stops responding altogher, and so i have to do a restart.

please help me Avast, otherwise i will need to ultimately switch back to Nortons or someone else

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • Which version…?
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP/Build…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

I am experiencing the same exact issues after many years of using Avast. I will do as suggested and reinstall as repair didn’t work for me either. But, I have to say, it shakes my faith a little in Avast Anti-virus. Any explanation for why this happened in the first place? And apparently, I’ve not been protected since this began, which is quite scary given what’s going on in the world. I have to admit, I’m disappointed right now.

I know your question was directed at another user, but here’s my info:

Avast Pro Antivirus
Version - 12.3.2280 (build 12.3.3154.23)
OS - Windows 10, 64 bit
No other security software installed, and none ever installed on this computer but Avast.

Avast Premier
what version? i dont know, whatever the latest version is i am guessing
OS is win 7 pro 64bit sp1
no other security software installed
before this i used Nortons, but not on this computer - i have had Avast on this computer since i got it at teh end of 2015.

in regard to a clean install - where do i find a new installer for Avast premier? do i have to re-purchase? if so then no thanks i will change to nortons.

  1. Download Avast Pro Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_pro_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.
  1. Download Avast Premier Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_premier_antivirus_setup_offline.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

do i just place teh uninstall utility on my desktop and run it from there? or do i need to put it in a specific folder?

Yes.

I am following this now’ but it is missing some details i need - when i do the initial uninstall of avast it wants me to do a restart, well you didnt say anything about this, so i instead started the avast uninstall utility and went to safe mode, it is running the utility in safe mode now but it is taking a while - does t take a while typically? Probably like close to 10 minutes now, its still going

Okay this avastclear program in safe mode is still going after more than 30 minutes - how long is this supposed to take? Is it broken do i need to do so e hard reset’ why cant you just tell me clearly and explicitly what i need to do

well, the safe mode avastclear program did not work - it hung for 40 minutes plus - so i did a restart and am back in windows and now am trying to install avast premier and it is just sitting on that infuriating little loading window - is it hanging now too? wtf - cmon help me here please,

Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB33#artTitle

okay i need some help and i t did an uninstall and then selected to go to safe mode and do the Avastclear.exe utility - this program just hung in safe mode for 40 minutes so i did a restart and did it again and this time it worked but now everytime i restart, the computer brings up the screen asking whether to start windows 7 or tHE Avast uninstall utility - i select Windows 7, but now the computer only goes to safe mode - how do i get it go back to normal mode?

i did the manual removal and deselected the safe boot option from msconfig so i think that is all fixed now

i have selected the avast premier setup exe now - but it is just a loading window - is this now hanging?

do i need to be offline for the offline setup.exe?

if this does not work i will have to cancel my subscription to avast

okay so i went offline, the install worked and hopefully the previous problems i was having with the internet cutting out due to something going on with avast, is no more …
