Avast is blocking connection to secure websocket

Just installed v. 10.3.2223 Free Antivirus

I have now the problem, that I can not see some pages that require a secured websocket connection using CORS.
This page https://chess24.com/en/watch/live-tournaments uses socket.io 0.9.17 to load most of its dynamic content, but the websocket connection is not established properly.

If I exlude chess24.com from the web protection it is working.

I have this problems in chrome (Version 44.0.2403.107 m), Firefox (38.0.5) and Internet Explorer (11.0.9600)
Using Windows 7 x64 Professional.

IMO this is a bug and I would like to know how I can avoid running into this problem, without excluding all pages with a similar problem or even deactivating the entire web protection.

Thanks in advance

Update to the latest version (10.3.2225): https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=173591.0

I’m now on 10.3.2225 and the problem still exists.

  • Which Avast…? (Free/Pro/IS/Premier)
  • OS…? (32/64 Bit…? - which SP…?)
  • Other security related software installed…?
  • Which AV(s) did you use before Avast…?

Free Antivirus 2015
Windows 7 Professional SP1 x64 + all windows updates
Didn’t had any AV earlier, and deactivated security essentials real time protection immediately after installing avast

First, be sure to get rid of all remnants of your prior installed AV(s)…!!
https://www.avast.com/faq.php?article=AVKB11#artTitle

Then:

  1. Download Avast Free Antivirus: https://files.avast.com/iavs9x/avast_free_antivirus_setup.exe
  2. Follow instructions: https://www.avast.com/uninstall-utility (Run this tool for all prior installed Avast versions…!!)
  3. Reinstall Avast with the downloaded installer from point 1.
  4. Reboot.

Followed your instructions, but the problem persists.

To check I just went to https://chess24.com/en/watch/live-tournaments and the loader stays forever. Deactivating the web protection and it is working fine.

OK, does it work if you disable HTTPS-Scanning…?

Yes, then the link is working…

I heard already from other users that they had this problems since ~1 week when using avast and want to browse chess24.com.

OK, wait for one of the devs, this might be a bug.

Any news on this issue ?
This seems to be a very big problem on our website.

No, but you can submit a ticket: https://support.avast.com/Tickets/Submit

Hi,

you are the owner of https://chess24.com/en/watch/live-tournaments ?

We should fix this soon.

Martin

Just to let you know our users have exactly the same issues on our sites using websockets, including www.ludicash.com .

we have the same problem at www.sharelatex.com

avast don’t seem to be fixing the issue.

Hi gyus,

we are aware of the issue and working on the fix. It will be released in next few days.

Still now news ?
Will be forced to tell our customers to uninstall avast to use our website ? This seems a little extreme but we do not have much choice

Until the fix is available simply disable HTTPS scanning in the Avast settings:

This solution doesn’t work. Avast is also blocking non-secure websockets.
You need to disable the entire webschield to fix it.

Disabling Webshield isn’t a fix. Doing so puts your system at risk.
Maybe you need to start your own topic and describe your problem in detail so you can get some help.
