Avast IS Blocking Internet Access on Windows 8 using mobile

I’ve been running Avast Internet Security for atleast 3 months with no issues on Windows 7. I then did a clean install of Windows 8 Pro (64 bit) and downloaded the latest version of AIS 7.0.1474. It worked fine but I moved and no longer have a fixed line to access the internet. So I decided to use my phone over Bluetooth, but it connects then nothing happens (no internet access). I searched and came across users complaining that Avast blocks their internet connection on windows 8. I uninstalled Avast and I can now connect to the internet -___-. This only happens when using a mobile device to connect to the internet. I tried disabling the network shields and the firewall before uninstalling with no success. I also tried a few other phones and using a USB cable instead of Bluetooth.

This is just ridiculous, “Compatible with Windows 8” really? How did they not test this >< …I have since moved from my paid Internet Security to MSE. Come on Avast get your act together!

Oh your reply is so clever -___-, I never said that MSE is better than avast at least it is not blocking my internet access which is a ridiculous bug for avast. MSE comes standard with windows 8 so I chose this for the time being.

If you don’t have anything constructive to add to this then please don’t waste my time by posting snarky comebacks because you feel the need to hate on something or someone.

Oh and as I have stated, I PAID for avast not for MSE “/ so I would appreciate it if avast fixes this ASAP because with each passing second my paid licence is running out. So yea I’m a bit peeved because I don’t see them reimbursing me for the time I can’t use my PAID product.

it was just ment as info to a MSE user in case you did not know.....

you can be 110% sure they are checking and working on any error case posted here...

Just wanted to add my voice here to say that it’s not just mobile. I’m having the same problem with my laptop’s wireless internet. I’ve had a subscription for about 2 years now, on Win 7 and recently updated to Win 8 and, for the most part had no trouble. Then, yesterday, I found that my computer said there were ‘no connections available’, which was odd since my phone was connecting fine to the same router. After looking online and in the Device Manager, I found four listings in the DM showing Avast ‘filter miniports’ as not working properly. I then uninstalled Avast, restarted, and had no connection still. Then, I rebooted into Win 7 (I have a dual boot), and lo and behold, it was working. I restarted into Win 8…and it was working!

Being the idiot I am, I decided to try a fresh installation of Avast, which seemed to be working fine. I switched off the computer for the night after a couple of hours, and when I restarted it this morning, had the same problem again. I’ve now uninstalled again, and am about to go into Win 8 again, so I’m just hoping it’ll work for now, but it does mean I’ll have to use something else, which is annoying as I only just renewed my subscription a month ago and don’t want to be paying for something I can’t use.

Over a vanilla ethernet connection, even after disabling the web shield, I still lost the ability to reach google.com and yahoo.com (and any other sites I tried) through my chrome browser. Right click on Avast!, Disable all shields until computer is restarted, and was then able to pull up the sites.

Not an ideal solution, but it did correct my issue (at least immediately). Unfortunately this issue and the aswnet.sys bluescreens that I’ve experienced are intermittent, so I’m going to hope that disabling the shields continues to be effective. I’ll also continue to hope that Avast! produces an update that’ll work with Windows 8 pro 64 (I don’t expect that Microsoft will correct anything on their end that might have introduced this intermittent incompatibility) - I’ve been trusting it to keep my computer virus free since Windows XP.
