Avast randomly blocking my internet connection. No rule how often, could be every 15min, could be few hours. It is never from the start, always after some time. (Avast Premium Security)
Tray icon is red and says: “you are not protected”
Main app is green and says: “you are fully protected”
And there is no internet.
While I agree that having no internet is ultimate protection, it is not what I have in mind.
Short term solution is disable/enable protection from the trayicon. It works till the next time.
App is updated.
The latest Beta build has just been notified in the Forum yesterday - https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=328717.0 - New beta version 24.9.6130 (build 24.9.9452) number given in that topic).
This would mean build 24.9.9452 is still in Beta ?
Hopefully so, if those still reporting the isssue, in this topic off3nc3 and hessca (8th & 9th September 2024) can submit the Support Log file, if this issue is still present.
Hi, thank you for reporting this. Can you please check if the problem persists today?
If it does, can you send us logs from your device so we can check what might be the culprit? The process is described here: https://support.avast.com/en-ww/article/submit-support-file/
Once the logs are generated, please send me the “File ID” of your logs.
Hello , first of all I need to chime in on this topic because I started experiencing the same issues starting not more then a week ago.
Running Windows 11 Pro with an original license , 2.5 GIGABIT fiberlink on a very beeffy PC unit and I never had any issues with my internet.
The internet connection gets cut off for like 10sec-20sec-1 minute randomly and avast icon in taskbar has a red icon over the symbol like when you manually turn off all you’re shields and controls.
This is very annoying and I never had any issues with avast ( using the free avast BTW ) for many years.
Clearly this is an issue with either the firewall from within avast because it blocks my ISP traffic randomly , no errors this is the event viewer log : “The Avast Antivirus service terminated unexpectedly. It has done this 1 time(s). The following corrective action will be taken in 5000 milliseconds: Restart the service.”
I really hope someone gets this feedback to avast and they resolve this issue otherwise i’m uninstalling this software for good this is becomming a nuissance and this should never happen.
We are not the only users experiencing this , should we repair the client or what’s the fix ? I see that a new version/build is up to update so im going to try that and hopefully it fixes things but i’m not a happy camper.
I tried restarting my router and that doesn’t help, but:
Maybe it is the Web Shield that somehow is messing things up? I will try to disable it and see what happens. Unfortunatelly, this is completly random, so I cannot replicate it in any way.
I’ll also try clearing DNS when it happens.
It is Avast, because I don’t have this problem when it is not running.
I get no errors.
The only thing I can see that’s out of the ordinary it’s “you are not protected” in the trayicon. Everything else looks completly normal and there are no msgs at all.
There is internet connection and suddenly there is not and the only thing that’s diferent is that the trayicon changes to red.
The only solution working (besides restarting the whole PC) is the rightclick on the trayicon → Avast Shield Control - > Disable (for any amount of time) - > Enable (could be 1sec after).
Obviously I can leave it disabled, but it would defeat the point of having Avast.
And if you mean the browser it says:
No internet
DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NO_INTERNET
I am not using VPN of any sort and I have Malwarebytes (free version) installed but I turned it off and it didn’t help.
I found on the forum, that disabling protection from remote access helps in similar cases, so I tried that and it is hard to say, I think it happens less often, but it still happens. It can be coincidence also.
I did reinstall using avastclear in a safemode (when using “regular” uninstall nothing was happening after clicking uninstall button).
I then downloaded fresh installation from the Avast site and installed that.
After next restart the problem came back.
Avast’s self-defence module would prevent Task Manager stopping an Avast Function. Otherwise it would be easy for malware, etc. to do the same thing.
I have no problems in regard to modifying Avast (also where Uninstall resides) Control Panel > Apps & Features > Avast - Modify - Uninstall (it is in this area where components can be removed or a Repair initiated) or the full uninstall. This has always worked for me in the past.
How are you trying to Uninstall and Reinstall Avast, what errors are you getting displayed ?
I see this “you are not protected” Tray icon red X on occasion and I feel this is a bug in the system.
This first started for me when I removed the Avast Firewall and reverted to the Windows Firewall, so I thought it was that. Reinstalled the Avast Firewall disabled windows (automatically happens) and restarted my system to apply the changes. This appeared to resolve the issue, but it came back after a few days and happens periodically, I restart my system.
Whilst I’m using Avast Free when this “you are not protected”, occurred it didn’t stop my use of the Internet.
