Avast IS Blocking Network Printer

Hey guys,

As title suggests. I can’t even access the web interface using the printer network ip address. Can someone advise me of how I can allow the printer?

Do you have avast firewall? … If so, try turn off port scan

Avast UI → Protection → Firewall → Settings → Advanced → Uncheck “Enable automatic port scan detection”

Did that work?

Yes it did thanks.

Does that effect the security any though? And can the user not create an exception to allow the printer?

Thanks

There is a bug in port scan detection and I think they work on a fix

Yes, I’d think bug is localhost block which shouldn’t be as block is internal in your local network, not outside in WWW.

Thanks guys. How long has this been an issue?

Seems it showed in version 17.3.3443.0 which is the latest version: https://forum.avast.com/index.php?topic=199715.0

Some work was done on the firewall component.

Thanks for that. I’ll keep my eyes peeled for a resolution. Any idea what the is causing the issue and why the firewall is blocking the port scan from a network printer?

My network printer does not work when turned off after the computer is booted.

I have unchecked (Firewall) port scan and the only way to get a network printer to work on Windows 10, is to :
Settings, Devices, Printers, Select Printer, Manage, Run troubleshooter each time the printer is turned on after the computer is booted up.

It will work if you TURN OFF Avast shield control, which I would prefer not to do. I have Avast Premier (so yes I paid for this).

Seems this has not been fixed…

you may need to experiment with firewall network profile in private or puplic mode
also Internet Connection Sharing Mode on/off

Firewall was in Private mode.
Under Firewall, Profile, I clicked on Internet Connection Sharing Mode ON and it (network printer) finally worked when turned on after the computer starts. Thanks!
