Avast is "broken"?

Last night we ran a scan with avast, after it restarted it said it was broken. How do I fix it? It also said there were no viruses but when I got on this morning, websites kept popping up again. What do I do now?

Early in the week I had ran a scan with Microsoft.
This is what Microsoft says has infected my computer:
Trojan: JAVA/Classloader.D
Trojan: JAVA/Classloader.F
Trojan: Win32/Small

Try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select ‘avast! Anti-Virus,’ click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this. Though it could just be a temporary fault and a reboot may also sort it.

What version of JAVA are you using, as getting JAVA classloader trojans may indicate your Sun JAVA is in need of update.
Ensure you have the latest version of JRE because older versions can be vulnerable to malware. First remove All Older Versions From Add/Remove Programs.
Then get the latest update from here http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp

What did it do about the detection ?
For the most part these are adware.

Which was the exactly message? What is broked?

Do you use any other antivirus in your computer?
Can you try to repair your installation as David said?
If this does not help, can you uninstall / boot / install / boot again?

I believe it said this “program is broken” and can not update.

We also have yahoo antivirus but it is turned off. I only use the antispy scan.

The update could be broken I suppose, not the program itself…
Did you try to update again since that happened?

I didn’t last night it was late and this morning I didn’t have time, I had to leave for work. I immediately turned my computer off when all of the websites started popping up. I will try the suggestions when I get home this evening.

I was reading on another post that I should remove any other antivirus when using avast. Should I remove my yahoo antivirus/spyware? I like using the Ad-Aware SE anyway for spyware. The yahoo anitspy never seems to detect anything!

Thank you,

http://www.broadcaster.com/video/index.php?show=trated&bcsrtkr=a85d2&utm_campaign=Traffic&utm_source=Adon_for&utm_medium=popunder I am infected by a virus telling to to use drivecleaner, The program open and what’s to scan my computer, I closed it and resart-ed , but to no avail, it’s always there

A new tool RogueRemover, available here http://www.malwarebytes.org/rogueremover.php

Yes I think you should remove the Yahoo anti-virus as two resident anti-virus programs can clash.

Last night I removed the yahoo antivirus and it seems to be working better, faster. After I did a boot scan, nothing was found. But I received 7 warnings afterwards and put them in the chest and then deleted them from the chest. Today I am still getting unwanted websites popping up and no warnings from avast.

Also, when I reboot my compuer, there is a warning that says "window defender, application failed to intialize: 0x80010.ba. A problem caused windows defender service to stop. I am not sure what windows defender does. Does it conflict with avast? Do I need to remove windows defender?

This is what I deleted from the chest:
c:\docume1\hp_owner\locals1\temp\nikrxung.dll - win32:vbstat-c
c:\docume1\hp_owner\locals1\temp\kglhvqc.exe - win32:trojan-gen
c:\docume1\hp_owner\locals1\temp\artesgeo.dll - win32:adware-gen
c:\docume1\hp_owner\locals1\temp\aawtmp\c33382 -malware
C:\docume1\hp_owner\locals1\temp\yngwsdqb.dll - bho-bg
C:\docume1\hp_owner\locals1\temp\aawtmp\c33382 - js:gummy
C:\docume1\hp_owner\locals1\temp\aawtmp\c33382 - win32:small-adu

FYI- it said the “package is broken”

Firstly there is little point in putting something into the chest if you are going to delete it immediately from the chest. There is no rush to delete anything from the chest, a protected area where it can do no harm. Anything that you send to the chest you should leave there for a few weeks. If after that time you have suffered no adverse effects from moving these to the chest, scan them again (inside the chest) and if they are still detected as viruses, delete them.

These look like they belong to adaware (are you using adaware ?) it unpacks its signatures and avast may be detecting these signatures. I would advise pausing the standard shield provider when doing a scan with any other security program, this should avoid any possible detection of signature files.
c:\docume1\hp_owner\locals1\temp\aawtmp\c33382 -malware
C:\docume1\hp_owner\locals1\temp\aawtmp\c33382 - js:gummy
C:\docume1\hp_owner\locals1\temp\aawtmp\c33382 - win32:small-adu

There may be an undetected trojan downloader on your system.

If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it, preferably in safe mode.

  1. Ewido, a.k.a. avg anti-spyware If using winXP. or a-Squared free if using win98/ME.
Today I am still getting unwanted websites popping up and no warnings from avast.
This may be either browser hijacking (I guess you are using IE ?) or an adware or spyware trojan, run one of the above and see what it brings.

This may just be a temporary blip that can be resolved by a reboot or you could try a repair of avast. Add Remove programs, select 'avast! Anti-Virus,' click the Change/Remove button and scroll down to Repair, click next and follow. You need to be on-line to do this.
