Avast is corrupted

My Pro. Avast is corrupted, at boot-up it sit in the tool tray with a red circle and a line threw, it will sit for 3 mins before it loads. When I click on the ball a pop-up reads “the aavm subsystem detected a rpc error”
I tried the repair but that doesn’t work.
I purchase it over the internet and downloaded it threw my e-mail.

Can I delete it and download it again using the same license key?

Thank You,
Bde6

AAVM subsytem detected and RPC error. http://www.avast.com/eng/faq-other-questions.html#idt_1539 check this and see it helps.

I purchase it over the internet and downloaded it threw my e-mail.
Where did you purchase it ? What does it mean 'and downloaded it threw my email' ? That doesn't sound normal to me you download the program from avast.com purchase a licence either through the on-line purchase and Share*It or an authorised reseller. How did you do this ?

The only reason I ask is there have been a number of fraudulent sites selling avast home which is free.

If you have gotten your copy of avast 4 Pro and license in this way there should be nothing to stop you doing as you suggested, but first check the above FAQ link. However, the above error is often accompanied with a Red circle with a line through it over the avast ’ a ’ icon. This is also an indication of the presence of another AV.

Have (or did) you have another AV installed in this system, if so what and how did you get rid of it ?

Thanks David, for your answer.
I downloaded the program from a e-mail Avast sent me after I purchased it thru Avast web page.
I have 3 programs running, SpyBot, SpyWare blaster,
MS Defender are theses OK?
Thank You for your time
Bde6

Generally those programs are OK with avast.

However, I have started to see some posts that would seem to indicate that Defender loads its signatures into memory, this speeds up any scan/comparison as access to RAM is much faster than access to your HDD. The problem is it doesn’t encrypt this signatures in memory and on occasion avast detects them, causing undue alarm to the user. I think there are programs as good or better than Defender that don’t load unencrypted signatures into RAM.

Spybot S&D has the resident function TeaTimer and this has been known to delete the avast icon (ashDisp.exe).

Personally I thing S&D is very limited in its usefulness, its updates are large and often difficult to access their update servers. I have uninstalled it and added another anti-spyware tool.

If you haven’t already got this software (freeware), download, install, update and run it.

  1. Alternative to Defender - Ewido, a.k.a. avg anti-spyware If using winXP. or a-Squared free if using win98/ME.
  2. Alternative or addition to S&D Ad-Aware SE Personal Edition

I assume you have been able to download the latest version of avast Pro, reinstall and use your existing key ?

Welcome to the forums.

Just a note.
It’s my understanding that AVG Anti-Spyware only does real-time scanning with the paid version or 30 day trial period.

Resident protection is also for 30 days trial then it disables the resident protection if you don’t upgrade. No conflict with the resident AVG-AS and avast.

Thanks again DavidR I will try everything you said.
Delete S&D and add one that you have, get rid of MS Defender for ADware. It could be the problem of AVAST loading so slow!!
Have a great weekend

MS defender will have an effect on overall loading/boot as it is a resident scanner.

However, I would consider adaware a replacement for Spybot S&D not defender, use one of the alternatives I suggested to replace that, Ewido, a.k.a. avg anti-spyware or a-Squared free.

OK DavidR, I will do just that and remove Spybot S& D with Adware.
Does that small circle with the red line tru it only go away after you connect to the internet?

Have a great day & thanks again,
Bde6

The small red circle is an indication that avast isn’t running properly for a few people it takes a little time loading avast fully and whilst that happens the red circle appears. I never see it, but it certainly isn’t meant to go away when you connect, it should be gone long before that.

DavidR,
I deleted Avast and downloaded it again but that circle stays there for awhile till I connect?
Should I delete it again and try it?
Thank You,
Bde6

When you say deleted, do you uninstalled and reboot ?
If that is what you did then somehow I don’t think re-installation will change that, something would appear to have changed and that it tying up the RPC service and that is what avast requires.

As far as finding what it is I’m unsure, I know that one of the Alwil team (Vlk I believe mentioned something like this recently. I tried a quick forum search but couldn’t find it. You might want to do an advanced forum search on “AAVM subsytem detected a RPC error” with the quotes and order it by most recent first.

Hi DavidR,
I deleted Avast from my computer and rebooted then checked in search files & folders for it and it was gone. I downloaded it again and the same thing happen. So I called my modem tech service and ask them about programs loading slow and they said, it’s normal because of connect time will be slowed by the no. of programs that have to load first. So all this time has been wasted trying to fix something that can’t be fixed!!!
Thanks for your time DavidR

Try Startup Delayer to control the windows startup (Windows 98\Me\2k\XP) that does not follow a strict order.
You can set some applications to start very after the boot (logon) itself.
It will manage the execution of programs that are automatically started by the operating system at logon time.
