Avast is pushing Smart Scan again

I just had this screen pop up in the middle of my screen. Avast trying to scare people into running Smart Scan again.

Smart Scan is set to manual, so effectively it never runs. That’s how I want it. Stop foisting your upsell on those that’ve clearly chosen to ignore the existence of Smart Scan and its scaremongering bullshit.

This is once more eroding my trust in Avast as a company. No means no. Respect our choices!

Image: Full GUI screen takeover popup front and center. Sigh. At this point you’re the security issue!

I got that after the Windows Update having been downloaded (two windows updates one after the other), the Patch Tuesday element of your image.

I allowed it to run but it didn’t run a Smart Scan but a regular scan which was done and dusted very quickly. So not actually a Smart Scan.

I can only think you opted for Maybe later.

I clicked the X top right. Like I do with all Avast ‘promotions’. I don’t engage with any of it.

That ‘maybe later’ is a dark pattern button by the way, making it illegal in the EU. Avast is breaking the law.

Same on all my computers with Avast installed. It is so annoying and I hate it so much.

I had some thing similar window inviting a “Smart Scan”. I’m not entertaining that, so X’d out.
It would be good if they changed “Maybe later” to Maybe never"

Given the screenshot posted by Rundvleeskroket

There is no mention of it being a Smart Scan but Scan now and the mention of Patch Tuesday, relating to Windows Updates.

I allowed it to run, to see what it was and it wasn’t a Smart Scan!

Yet on the screenshot I can clearly see the words “Run a Smart Scan”
Even if this isn’t Avast’s “Smart Scan”, it’s confusing

Yes, I missed that I was looking at the Buttons and the fact that it didn’t run a Smart Scan when I clicked the Scan Now button.

It happened again. The same Avast GUI popup front and center, pushing Smart Scan.

Is this a new monthly annoyance? Stop it!

I had Avast screen with “Patch Tuesday” invite to do a Smart Scan.
X’d out of that.
But then normal Avast UI.
X’d out of that.
Really annoying when working on stuff.

The fun fact is, Patch Tuesday is for fixing security vulnerabilities and Avast thinks it can contain malware. Even so, the File System Shield will detect it in time. Smart Scan is just a scareware app.
