The content seems legit. It is a summary of topics I visited here the last couple of days.
At the bottom it says:
This summary is sent from Avast Community when we haven't seen you in a while. Change your email settings, or click here to unsubscribe.
Now, I have checked all my forum settings. Profile, Notifications, Topic Subscriptions, etc. Everything is unchecked, as it should be!
Not only shouldn’t I get these type of mails in the first place ever, I’m also been on the site daily the past weeks.
Yet, I receive this mail, and from a Norton address no less.
What the hell is this nonsense, and how do I stop it? I’m not clicking a link in the mail to change a setting or ‘unsubscribe’. Those are classic phishing traps.
But I can’t find a relevant setting in my user profile that seems to be the culprit, and I haven’t changed a setting in forever anyways.
What is going on? If it is legit, I don’t want it, and if it is fake, how does it know what topics I visited recently? I fear this is just Avast ignoring user preferences again. Stop sending me mails!
I’ve also checked my account settings and profile on profile.avast.com, so the main website and not the forum.
There too I can’t find any setting related to suddenly receiving unwanted mail. No mention of service mails or the like, which this isn’t and shouldn’t be.
How do I stop this without clicking a link in a suspicious email?
I have had three in the last 2 months and would appear to be related to the new Avast forum update.
At first I thought that the Avast Forum was going to be integrated to the Norton Forum, but that doesn’t appear to be the case
Avast [Summary] and Avast [Community Summary], I also got one from Discourse [Summary] all from dev-community.norton.com - these appear to come from an email mailing service ct.sendgrid.net, presumably handling the mailing content for the norton.community.
Same here. i got the same email on Thursday.
Strangely enough and not connected i seem to be in the last month getting weekly newsletters from Malwarebytes which i use the free version but have never signed upto any newsletters.
It is spam. Plain and simple. Probably to drive engagement or something. I did not choose it. I do not consent to it. And I want to know how to unsubscribe without clicking a link in the mail. That’s typically a big no no, and will likely result in my account being flagged as active so a prime target for more spam. No thanks.
