See attached .jpg for exact error. Was on the 'net here at the forums when avast! stopped running and displayed the error box noted below.
Disconnected the modem and then clicked OK to terminate the program.
Avast! sys tray icon was frozen in mid-scan of a file, then it resumed scanning that file after OK was clicked. Checked program status and “Everything is good” was noted as usual. Seems it restarted immediately after doing the OK. Checked Reliability Monitor and no crash caught by Windows was found.
System seems unaffected by this error. (Win 7)
Anyone know or have an idea or clue as to what this is?
Discovered that the avast! Firewall NDIS Filter Miniport drivers seem to be not working.
See attached below:
Already have done a repair and clean install, no change in status. Above error noted may have been the result of the drivers not working? Firewall is working in Statistics.
Clean install of AIS to .2007 from 8.0.1497 AIS and then gui update to .2008.
This current volume is a restore to 11/15/2013 disk image as I did not know that the NDIS drivers were not in the current version of .2008. I did remove the NDIS drivers via Device Manager on today’s volume, only to find that the firewall then was showing no activity in Statistics, hence the disk restore.
Surprised that these NDIS Filter drivers were not removed using aswclear.exe when running Win 7 here. Made a point of doing a clean install before moving up a build number from 8.0 to 9.0 just to hopefully prevent such an issue.
But, having said that, this has not really been an issue since the initial post here. Ultimately, this could resolve out as a memory leak issue with Statistics window as that could cause a breakpoint where it just stops running properly. We’ll just have to wait to see if that is the case. Of note, this breakpoint did not affect proper operation of avast! as a whole, as far as I could determine. Nothing was amiss in any Administrative Tools logs that I could find for either avast! or the Statistics window.
The problem is the breakpoint error occurs with or without the NDIS stuff. If you leave the statistics open when you are using your computer (as I do), you will eventually reach the breakpoint.
No answer on breakpoint from me. Can you create a process dump (it should be possible in task manager on Windows 7+) at the moment you see the error dialog?
Noted on the XP system that all NDIS Miniport drivers (there are several) are marked as active and functioning properly. Not that it is going to make much difference, as XP support ends in April of next year, but why the difference between XP and Win 7 as far as the NDIS drivers go? Why are Windows NDIS drivers affected/broken and XP not?
I’ve not had a re-occurrence of the breakpoint error since it happened again, but then again I don’t run the Statistics window as long as leftisthominid does. I open it when needed, look, and close it soon after. Both breakpoints happened when I forgot it was running for a time. So, if left open, it does breakpoint eventually.
